SXSW

So when I was in high school, I babysat these two brothers named Evan and Colin. Colin was a baby or young toddler and Evan was maybe 5 or 6. They were grandsons of some friends of my parents. I loved babysitting them because Colin was adorable and Evan was pretty fun to play with too. Emily remembers babysitting them as well, probably once I got to old for babysitting.

When the movie Castaway came out, I think it must have been over Christmas break in 2000 because I was pregnant with Rebecca, we went to the movies in Ponca to see it with Emily & her husband and John and maybe Jennifer too. A group of "young" (to us) kids was sitting in front of us, and I thought I recognized Evan but I wasn’t sure. Emily yelled out "Evan" so when he turned around we knew it was him. He clearly didn’t recognize us but Emily said "We used to be your babysitters!" It was rather embarassing. She also said something about him being in college and he said "Actually, I just graduated." Yikes, I felt old.

So tonight my mom called and asked if I remembered Colin and Evan. (She is still friends with their grandmother; their grandfather passed away last year). She said that Colin has a band that has been moderately successful, they have just done a tour of the midwest and they are at this "Southwest" music festival in Austin. [Me: South by Southwest, Mom. It’s kind of famous.] Jay Leno was apparently there when they were playing, and they found out today that a clip of their band is going to be on the Tonight show tonight.

So I had to go look up their band & I’ll try to remember to watch tonight. The band is called Colourmusic and here is their myspace page http://myspace.com/colourmusic (music will start playing). I couldn’t see good pictures of the band, not that I would recognize Colin anyway. He was a chubby cute baby, that’s about how I remember him.
