I’m finally ready to write about this…

What is the meanest thing ever said to you? My sister once said to me, “You look like you don’t speak English.” To this day my jaw drops to the floor when I think of that moment in time. It was just one moment, one thing said but it forever colored how I feel about my sister.

I was in my early teens and she was younger (still no excuse) and we were at the mall with my mom.  My mom had gone off to the bathroom. My sister went to get straws for our drinks. Out of nowhere these two mean girl type of girls sit across from me. I have no idea why but they focused right in on me. I didn’t know them, and they had only seen me for 5 minutes. I don’t understand what prompted this but they started making fun of me. They started saying “Helloooo??? Hellloooo??? Hola???” and started laughing at me and the way I looked or something. I was sitting there trying not to cry and my sister comes back just as they were leaving. What does she do? She says, “Those girls were making fun of you!” as if I did not know. Then, for whatever reason she decides to say, “You look like you don’t speak English.” I just sat there in shock.

Even my mom did not seem to notice that I was crying when she came back. What on earth is wrong with these people? I was a kid with learning and social disabilities!

I know some people might be thinking that this is not the worst thing on earth and I know it isn’t. For some reason it stuck with me to this day. I have never quite forgiven my sister for saying that. She was always one of my worst bullies. To this day she isn’t exactly nice to me. I haven’t spoken to her in months. Whatever info I get on her baby I get from my parents mostly.

Oh well, such is life I guess. I have to go to work now.  I wonder what jobs I will be doing today.
