I’m really only in teaching for the quotes

Student answers from a test on the Trojan War that I gave a class of fifth graders today.

1. Who do you think were the “good guys,” the Trojans or the Greeks? Explain why. If you think both sides were good, or bad, explain why.

I think the Trojans are the “good guys” in this war. I think this because the Greeks were the ones who came to their city to take over. I think when they got the Trojan horse, they should have been more careful.

I think that the Trojans were the bad guys because Paris stole Menelaus’ wife and he just wanted her back and the Trojans would not give her back so they killed everybody in the gate.

Troy were good and Greece were bad because the greece side burned down troy. Troy did not burn down greece. That is why I think troy is good and greece is bad

I think that the Greeks were the “good guys” because they didn’t realy do anything, but the Trojans took Helen. So the Greeks are just fighting to get Helen back which isn’t really bad.

I think the Trojans and the Greeks were both bad because Paris took Helen back to Troy which is considered “kidnapping” her to the Greeks. But, the Greeks are also bad because they spent years & years trying to get into Troy and killing every one who came out of the walls of Troy.

I think both were good because they fought for their city.

I think both sides were bad because The Trojans took Helan from the Greeks. The Greeks were bad because they started a war for the dumbest reason.

I think there both good and bad why well I don’t know whay.

I think that the Trojans were the good guys because to me, personaly, they seemed nicer and a bit calmer.

2. If you were Paris, which goddess would you have chosen to give the apple to? Why?

Since it was a buety challange I would chose Venus.

If I was Paris I would have picked the same one he did. The reason for that is because that was my favorite reward/bribe.

I would give the apple too Venus because the apple said too the fairest and she is the god of beauty so she must be the beautiful.

I would have chosen Minervia, because with wisdome beautiful women will probly like you & people would probly want you to rule, because you always make the right chose.

I would tried to split the apple. Why I would do that so they would not be upset wheth each other.

I would have chosen Venus because you could have the most beautiful girl fall in love with you. Then other royal beings would be jealous.

If I was Paris I would have chosen Minerva the god of wisdom beacause It would be better to be smart than pretty.

3. Who is your favorite character in the story of the Trojan War? Explain what you like or find interesting about that character.

My favorite character in the story of the Trojan war is Achilles because I think it would be cool to only be able to get hurt in the heel.

My favorite character is Odysseus because he was tricky and sly and always coming up with some interesting plan to trick somebody else.

My favorite character in the Trojan War is Laocoon because he knew that the trojan horse was a trick.

I like every one but If I hab to chose it would be Aneas because he seemed wise.

My favorite character is Aeneas. I like Aeneas because he cares for his wife Creusa, but she was already dead. Also because he was to found a new land and he took care of his son.

Creusa, because she was smart and sweet. She told Aeneas to get out of the city.

I know that I think this guy is bad and I like him a lot, but I like Achilles because he is almost undefetable. I also think that he is pretty cool.

Neptune because you don’t expect a god to be on a side in a war.

My favorite character in the Trojan War is the Trojan Horse. The Trojan Horse is my favorite character because I like to build things and I like horses.

My favorite character of the Trojan War is Achilles because If your sword hit him on the back, it would bounce off.

from my class today: STUDENT: Mr. *****, I’m not coming to the concert Thursday because I have a volleyball game. ME: Oh, okay. So how much does that game count toward your volleyball grade? STUDENT: (three second pause) but… but… ME: Nice try. See you Thursday.

Slightly more disturbing example from the 7th grade class: Me: Can anyone define “cenat” [dine]? Student #1: Is it “drink”? Me: No, but close– it’s something you often do at the same time. Student #2: Smoke?

Hi. Bit random but thought I’d see if you were interested. Basically I write for an online magazine dedicated to British Sci-fi show Doctor Who. The next issue is out in July and we’ll be reviewing an episode in which they went back to Ancient Troy. I was thinking that some of the comments you’ve posted up here might be interesting as a little sidebar to the article. Is that something you’d be happy with/like to consider? Our most recent issue came out last week if you wanna have an idea of the style and layout of the magazine. http://doctorwhottz.blogspot.com/ Thanks.

Hi again. We’re putting the issue together at the moment and just wanted a name a mini-bio to go with the above. Could be serious, flippant, absurd, whatever. Would you be able to email that to theterriblezodinezine@yahoo.co.uk or leave me a private note on OD? Many thanks J.

Maybe if it mentioned who/where you teach that might be useful!
