An Open Diary is not a blog.

A blog is a web journal maintained either off a blogger’s own website, or off a blogging site like blogspot or typepad that is not centrally located and does not have “circles” or “communities” or “reader’s choice” or a “DiaryMaster.”

Open Diary, Xanga, Myspace, LiveJournal, and so on are all diary communities and nothing on them is a blog.

If you refer to your Open Diary as a blog, you are being pretentious, and if someone asks for the name of your blog and you direct them to Open Diary, they are probably going to crack up.

A real blog is not difficult to start and maintain, and it’s free! I have one myself. I have one because I got to know a bunch of people who were all interested in the same thing and all had blogs, and every time I tried to get them to come to my diary instead (I did not refer to my diary as my blog), they rolled their cyber-eyes a little. So I got a blog, already.

If you are referring to your diary as a blog, either get a blog, already, or face that you are addicted to functions of OD that don’t come with a blog, such as the Politics Circle and the number of offensive notes you get here, and suck it up, and call it a diary.

I know “diary” sounds like something a twelve-year-old girl keeps. Take it up with the DM, or move to LJ. “Journal” sounds more like a seventeen-year-old boy with pretentions to sensitivity. “Blog” sounds all grown up and important, which, I am aware, is why you are using it, so… get a blog, already.

‘Kay? ‘Kay.

Log in to write a note

Hey, could you please stop insulting me already? It’s annoying enough that you will take the other persons side by default just because you have some kind of tiff against me.

Well, I suppose that particular comparison wasnÂ’t very insulting, because my brother and I are both huge fans of the Mooninites. I just feel like you always will side with the other person that IÂ’m feuding with, even though I shouldnÂ’t be feuding with anyone at all because itÂ’s so pointless. Things are always so slow during the summer monthsÂ…

Isn’t it a bit pretentious to care enough about the difference between a blog and an online diary to actually write an entry about it?

No, it’s not pretentious. The word you’re looking for is “pedantic.” 🙂

If you insist. I won’t argue about blogs and diaries. That’d make me pretentious. No, wait. Not pretentious … pathetic. Yes, definitely pathetic. Were you afraid I’d miss the note on my own blog? Sorry, diary.

Multiple orgasms are the only thing that make up for the hell of being a woman. It’s a pretty good deal when you think about it. I suppose I should get rid of the yeast before I start working on the multiple orgasms.

I agree completely. It annoys the heck out of me that so many people are now calling their diaries blogs.
