My sisters are both very good cooks. I’m okay. Nothing great. Not adventurous at all … will follow receipes, but I don’t experiment.

My sister Maggie actually goes a bit too crazy with flavour sometimes. I love vegetables. Steamed veggies with a bit of butter, s & p make me happy. Not her. When I visited last summer, she made carrots … but by the time she was finished with the lemon/dill seasoning, you couldn’t taste the carrots. I would probably have been happier with carrots … with a bit of butter and s & p.

Anyway …

She is someone who still writes letters and sends cards for every occasion. Last time the post office was on strike, I commented to her that them striking isn’t nearly as effective now because people do so much more on line. I don’t get any bills in the mail … I don’t pay anything by mailing a cheque. People communicate by e-mail, text message and facebook. It isn’t like the old days.

She disagreed. In fact, I think I offended her.

She was VERY upset by the mail strike.

She often sends me handwritten recipes, which is very sweet. During the past few years, I’ve been giving my kids recipes that I handwrite because I know how I feel when I find one of my mom’s in her handwriting.

The problem is, I’m not organized enough and her recipes often get misplaced.

Like the one for corn chowder. I really want to make it today, but I cannot find the damn recipe. And I don’t want to call her to tell her I lost it.

I know it will turn up somewhere. I remember filing it, but it isn’t where it should be!

Sigh.

I’ve started reading a book on procrastination.

The joke would be that I’ve procrastinated on reading it.

No joke – I’ve had this book since I first moved to my little house 5 years ago (my anniversary was 5 years February 4!).

It’s a good book! and has given me some hints.

Besides those hints, I have a legitimate reason to a few things accomplished before May 1.

Lara is coming home for a couple weeks … and I’m hoping Will can make it too. If they both come, I definitely need to have the basement cleaned up because Erin will be here for part of the time too! I’ll need that extra bedroom!

Here’s the final outcome of our storm on Friday. The ground was essentially bare before this storm. Not the biggest dump I’ve ever seen, but certainly enough. I’m glad I don’t have a real driveway. I’m not much of a shoveler.

I went to see Erin yesterday.

Gas where she lives is $1.32/litre.

Gas where I live is $1.20/litre.

How can there be such a huge discrepancy between 2 regions?

Moodie was at Erin’s for the week, so I went to get her. Erin’s Dad was supposed to be visiting and we have to maintain the charade that Moodie lives with her.

He didn’t bother going to see Erin … nor did he bother to contact her to say he wasn’t coming. She just shrugged … ‘that’s Dad for you. He’s such an idiot.’

Moodie was very excited to see me – she jumped on my lap and wouldn’t get off … and when I was getting ready to leave, she blocked the door and wasn’t going to let me go without her. She almost dragged me to the car!

Sweet little girl.

My nephew changed his profile picture on facebook. His new pic is a beautiful shot of him and his bride … the sun is setting behind them, they’re standing face to face holding hands and staring lovingly into each other’s eyes. They are standing knee deep in the ocean. She’s still in her gown.

I’ve heard there is a ‘wreck the dress’ trend. I know that no one plans to wear their wedding dress again … but, to just ruin it immediately after the ceremony?

I don’t understand.

I know … I’m old. But, regardless.

I just don’t understand.

What a waste.

It is a beautiful picture, though.

Nothing too exciting going on … obviously.

* I WISH YOU WELL! *

My mom files recipes under weird things. It’s funny. Like she makes this really special and good grilled chicken, but it’s not under C for chicken, it’s under G for grilled. And Chocolate Chip cookies are under C, but Sugar Butter cookies are under S. Also, if your sister was offended by that, she’s in denial, or takes things too personally. YOu weren’t saying people shouldn’t send things by . .

.. . snail mail, just that they usually don’t. The way I figure about the dress – you paid for it, so whatever will make you happy is what you should do for it. If it makes you happy to wreck it (for some great pictures, it sounds like!) then wreck it. If it makes you happy to keep it in your closet, keep it in your closet. You should be able to decide what to do with your own things!

Well come August we won’t have route mail delivery on the weekends any more. My mother is predicting that the next step will be to only have mail delivery on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I’ve started printing my recipes that I use the most and putting them in sheet protectors in a binder. My mom has an actual recipe binder that has protective sheets where you slide in the index card.I need the larger print that I can print out on computer paper because I haven’t gotten my glasses changed yet. lol.

wreck the dress? ack.

the discrepancy may be due to taxes (tariffs) gas is always is 1.50 a gallon more in california than it is in arizona.

if they are going to wreck the dress why not make it out of paper.

I don’t get the dress thing either. Perhaps a daughter would like to wear it at HER wedding. Then again, I don’t get why couples mash cake into each other’s faces when they cut the wedding cake.

It’s good brain health to change the way we do things, even slightly. Good luck with those hints!
