Akron Weekend – Sat

Dear Diary,

Woke up and was going to take a shower, but there was too much to do.  My mother and I drove to TGIFriday’s for lunch and now we’re in Akron.  I just took a dip in the hot tub and pool and now we’re going to decide what to do next.  We’re going to see Tuba Christmas tomorrow at the Akron Civic Theatre.

I’ll write more tonight.

Well tonight didn’t go as planned, but it was still interesting.  We walked around the area the hotel is in, which is a bustling shopping district that is at least a mile long.  There are chain restaurants and stores everywhere.  My mother bought a live wreath for $3 at ACME.  Then we went to TJMaxx, Lighthouse, Tinker Toys, and Mustard Seed Market.  She then decided we should try going to Stan Hywet for Deck the Hall.

It was a nice ride there as many people had their Christmas displays up.  The weather has been so unseasonal in Ohio lately.  I think it was in the fifties yesterday.  One the way we stopped at a Walgreens.  My mother wanted to use a coupon to buy VHS tapes for $0.99.  It turns out they also had something I fell in love with right away.  It was a big stuffed tiger, and it was $30, but I thought to myself that I hadn’t spoiled myself for a while, so I got it.  My mother put in on her credit card so I didn’t have to use the cash I had brought for this weekend :o)  I think this is his picture I found on the web.

When we arrived at Stan Hywet, I was disappointed when I found out they were sold out, but we did get to see the outside of the mansion at night.  All the trees were decorated and they looked mighty nice.  On the way back I spotted a Papa John’s pizza store, and I knew I wanted to use a coupon I got from the Akron Aeros game we went to earlier this year for a personal pizza.  As I ordered it I saw a sign that they were having a toy drive and if you brought in any NEW toy, they would give you 1 free medium pizza.  Since my personal pizza would be really small, my mother wouldn’t have anything.  As I looked down the street, what would I see but the Walgreens we were just in that night.  I said we’ll be back, we’re going over to Walgreens to buy a toy.  So I ordered the medium too and we went nextdoor.

My mother was hoping she’d find a greeting card for this guy she likes, but then changed her mind because she hasn’t given him her Sweetest Day card yet.  Now in the toy isle my mother wasn’t really generous.  She wanted to just buy silly putty for $1.99 but I instead found an inflatable Disney ball that kids could bounce on for $5.99.  It looked like fun and it would help with muscle growth, so I got that instead.  Back at Papa John’s we both recieved our mushroom pizza’s and were on our way back to the hotel.  My mother had me put them on the floor of the front seat and to put the heat on the floor so they’d stay warm.

Last night was good for TV.  I watched Home Alone, but I also saw It’s A Wonderful Life & Finding Nemo, along with a CAVS game.  I ate my pizza and petted my new tiger friend.  I still have to come up with a name for him.  It was really funny I got him because earlier that night I had seen a lifesize pozable stuffed golden retriever in the TInker Toys shop for $50.  My tiger friend looks better than the dog and was only $30.  My mother joked and said if my father was still here he’d say "Why are you getting that, it’s just sawdust made in China".

Well, at 9 o’clock I left the hotel room because my mother wanted to watch America’s Most Wanted and I hate that show.  Might as well watch the news becuase I get to hear and see all this bad stuff that happened to someone.  Instead, I went over to the Exercise room.  They had 2 walking machines and some gym equipment that I rarely see in hotels.  It took me back to my high school days when we had stuff like that there.  So I finished watching Home Alone on the walking machine and then switched to It’s A Wonderful Life during the weights.  My day ended with me watching a bit of South Park and MAD TV.  It was a really nice day so I’m hoping tomorrow will really be awesome.  Later gators.
