The nose doesn’t know

I’m housebound again with allergies.  Housebound and in a state of perpetual irritation.  Yes, it’s about time to start asking questions about it.  The doctor, the naturopath, maybe even the channel.

It’s still utterly perplexing to me.  Why should pollen be irritating?  Why is dust dangerous?  Why would food make a person sick?  And I’m not talking a cute little sneeze like an ad for antihistamines.  I’m talking really sick.  I don’t dare open a window today.

I’m generally open to the idea that physical illnesses can be a manifestation of mental problems.  But I just can’t see what this would be.

They say that those too sheltered as children, those raised in an environment *too* clean have a higher risk of actually developing allergies, and things like ashthma. Not sure what your upbringing was like, but yeah. I’ve also heard that things like hayfever are genetic to a degree. I think you’re just really unlucky (at least when it comes to allergies).

ooh! ooooh! it’s time for HOUSE!! you are officially a medical mysteries! bring on the handsome babydocs and the gruff old genius docs! hmm. one of my friends suffers from bipolar and she has this incredible way of getting hayfever-like symptoms out of absolute nowhere, that manifest in such a bad way she cannot even leave the house. they call it hayfever. even in winter.
