The Tonys

The Tony award show is on right now.  I’m very annoyed that I don’t live in New York and that I’ll never get to see most of these shows.  It’s not right.  I had decided that if I was going to go to seminary, I would go to General, which is in New York.  I think that I picked General just so that I could see Broadway shows for three years.  Well, that’s not the only reason.  They also have a center for Jewish studies there, which I thought would be a great opportunity to get some expertise in that area.  I think that one of the saddest things about modern (Western) Christianity is that most of us don’t know how much we owe to Judaism and the Jewish people.

Omigod it’s effing hot!  People who don’t live here think Michigan is a really cold state.  And it is several months of the year, but it’s also extremely hot sometimes.  Like right now.  And the humidity is what kills ya.  It makes the air sticky and unbearable.  Some days you just want to hide in a cool dark basement all day.  We have basements in Michigan.  In other states they don’t have basements, which has always baffled me.  If you’ve ever had a basement, you’d never go back to not having one.  There are certain things that must be kept in basements that cannot be kept in attics or garages.  Laundry rooms, for example, are often located in basements.  My aunt and uncle even have a laundry chute under the sink in their bathroom so that dirty laundry has a short trip to the basement laundry room.

Speaking of laundry, every other week or so I travel to my hometown to do my laundry at my dad’s house.  I could do it in my building, but it’s a dollar to wash and a dollar to dry.  Sometimes it takes two cycles (two dollars) to dry, and one of the washers doesn’t always spin out, so your clothes are still dripping wet.  So you have to put in another dollar and let the machine go through another complete wash cycle and hope that it spins out the second time.  It can be four dollars just for one load!  So I go home to do laundry.  It’s usually the only time I see my dad and my brother, and usually then it’s only one or the other.  They don’t like to spend time at home.  Mostly because they don’t want to see each other.

That’s going to have to be another entry.
