Wedding Update

Well, I went to the wedding this weekend.  It was really nice, and I’m really glad I went.  My cousin was beautiful, the weather was gorgeous, and the service was lovely.  I almost missed the ferry to get to the island, but I made it.  Riding the ferry was fun; I should have sat outside though.  After I got off the ferry I got a map and started walking to the resort where the wedding was to be held.  I passed a couple of churches on the way and noticed that my cousin’s wasn’t the only wedding on the island that day.  At the resort, I asked directions to the gazebo (outside on the front lawn, you can’t miss it), and wandered down to find my crazy aunt.  I went to this wedding believing I was going to be the only person there from my mother’s side, but no, Aunt Crazy was there.  So I sat with her during the ceremony, and I cried like an itty bitty baby.  I remember thinking that I wished my mom could have been there.

The service was very nice.  The officiant was the groom’s father.  He got a little choked up, which was sweet.  I’m really glad my cousin didn’t do anything dramatic with her makeup.  It can be jarring to see a bride all done up in her “special day” makeup.  Sometimes you don’t recognize them.  My other cousin was the matron of honor.  She is always gorgeous, and there was no exception that day.  The third sister lives in Ohio, and so while in attendance, was not  in the wedding party.  She brought her new boyfriend, whom none of her family had yet met.  Her grandfather had to be reminded not to call him “colored.”

After the wedding we went to a tavern downtown to each dinner.  Shortly after dinner, the bride and groom said farewell to everyone and left.  Shortly after that, everyone else left.  No dancing.  No cake.  No drunken relatives making passes at each other.  I rather liked it.

So I’m very glad I went, and I feel much better about myself right now.  Thanks to everyone who noted me with encouragement.  Every little bit helps.
