Convoy
I have been away awhile. Sorry to keep some of my readers – my friends – hanging for so long. Part of the reason is that when you get a full life suddenly after not having one, its difficult to shake the whole thing together. Also, I’ve been waiting for the missing entries to be restored, which I read this morning won’t happen. So, as the DM writes, “Its time to move forward.”
[ Its also interesting to me that I actually have “friends” here, people I’ve never met, have only read, but still consider friends, albeit not so strong of friends as the one’s I know in person, but still friends worthy of respect and who’s comradery through notes I do enjoy. ]
My office is about 3 blocks over, and 3 miles down, from where I live. My apartment is on one of the major bisectors of the city, my office sits just off the other one a few blocks over. My morning commute involves my circling my block to get going south on the one major street, a long straight drive south, then ducking 3 blocks up a minor side street to cross the other major street and pull into my office.
I know how badly some of you have been just dying to know all of that. *g*
This morning, I circled my block, and was waiting in the left turn lane to get on that major street south. The traffic was scurrying back and forth in front of me, and I saw coming up the street was a State Trooper, and behind it was an Army half-track (personnel carrier).
I thought it coincidence at first, but as the Trooper passed, I saw his cruiser had its traffic-deflector flashing, and I guessed correctly that he was leading a convoy.
Sure enough, next came a tank, a regular truck, a transport… The traffic lights cycled and it was with a small tingle of honor that I sat in my spot and let my green turn light expire as the convoy continued up the road.
And then it happened.
A civilian car had somehow thought poorly enough to get into the convoy, and felt obligated to stop at the red light which the rest of the convoy had been running. Behind it, one lonely transport.
Normal traffic flow restored, I made my left turn, and observed the tolerant disgust on the faces of the transport crew. I chuckled. I also observed that he wasn’t alone. There were several uniformed soldiers piloting two or three mundane vehicles (two vans, a car) behind the transport.
…silly little Tempo. Breaking up a perfectly rockin’ Convoy…
hehehe …. nice to see ya back
