Sum of all Fears

I saw the future of our nation tonight.

When the bomb went off, I screamed. In my mind. Then I froze. Along with 200 other people. For the next 10 minutes, there were no sounds from the gathered masses.

I wanted to cry. I tried to cry. I needed to cry. But I was in too much shock. Too much empathy for the scene I watched. This was not a time for tears. It was a time to survive.

By the time the carrier attack happened, I almost walked out of the theater. It was too much. Too intense. My heart was trying to protect me, but my brain won over.

I knew what I was coming to see, after all. And this was it.

But after I saw it, I knew I was seeing the future of our nation.

PARTIAL SPOILER: reveals plot detail

Not that I actually believe that a rogue group of fasists are going to contrive a US/Russian nuclear exchange. Not hardly.

No. I believe that Americans had better get used to the idea of nukes going off in our cities and towns, and the concept of our carriers getting ripped to shreds.

This is a lie that we are being fed. The war against terrorism is something that we must do. But in truth, you cannot fight terrorism. You cannot eliminate terrorism. You cannot stop terrorism.

“There is no way to prevent terrorism in a free society.”

Terrorism is by definition an unpredictable act.

We may be able to stop the first, or the second, or the third attempt to detonate a nuke on our soil. But, sooner or later, it will succeed. It WILL happen. Why? Because terrorism is unpredictable.

Unless you eliminate the unpredictable. Unless you eliminate free society.

THAT is the real agenda behind the war on terrorism. Ask the National Guardsmen, training at a northeastern base, who have sworn a new oath to serve The Republic. Ask about the Homeland Security Internal Checkpoints. Ask about the National ID Card. Oh, did I mention that it will also be available as a subdermal chip?

These things are coming, because too many people cower in their homes and say “Yes, take my freedom, if it means I won’t be blown up today”. Thats what they want you to say.

But the truth is. There will still be bombs. Because there will still be people. And people commit terror. And you will have sold your heritage for a single night of peace.

I have been given cause recently to revisit one of the greater questions I have ever asked. Should Christians fight the changes, the growing of evil, that ultimately brings about the truth in Revelations? Or should they stand aside and let evil reign, to hasten the hour of Christ’s return?

A pastor friend of mine has an interesting theory. He believes that Christ’s return could be delayed significantly, or even indefinately, if people had a change of heart.

He believes that the onset and outcome revealed as the “end times” come about because of a particular condition in the heart of Man. But if Man should change its ways, and embrace the Lord, then Satan is already defeated, and so much of the Apocolypse is unnecessary, and Christ does not need to return in person.

Or something like that. His premise is that if we change our ways, we can change the future. If people Pray, God responds.

I believe his basic premise is true. However, I believe that Revelation was written because God already knew that Man’s heart would remain hard, and that those things will must already soon occur. (past-future present tense)

So, as a Christian, it is already clear – I cannot accept the implantation of a National ID chip. However, what do I do in the meantime? Do I resist the oppression of my Constitutional rights by my government? Or do I open my arms and embrace my betrayer, and help to usher in Christ’s kingdom?

What about you?

i looked away and cried. i recognized that flashy, impulsive cinematography. i didn’t know the story and wished i hadn’t gone. i will live in my home, work from the interior out to my own backyard expanding slowly. i have not watched television, listened to the news or read a paper since 9/11. there is life in my walking space. i intend to live it and face the moral issues as they come.
