A moment of truth

These past few evenings, including tonight and probably tomorrow, I have been leaving work, changing clothes, then heading over to a friend’s (who is home briefly from college before going to finish her degree in France) to help clean up and restore her Apple laptop.

I was thinking to myself how fortunate I was to be so needed, that I had skills in so many diverse areas, and that my skills were high enough to rate so many requests for assistance from my friends. I was chastizing myself for starting to complain about being so busy helping other people, after all – service is my motto.

Then, true to myself, I ran internal analysis to determine why I should be feeling “down” about this at all, since the truth of being of service was so obvious. I mean, something subtle must be wrong someplace. And then it hit me, a singular truth:

I don’t mind being of service to so many people, I just wish sometime someone would call me up and ask me to come over because they wanted “me”, not my skills.

I like the italics, people suck sometimes…

I have never asked for your skills. 😛 Just your storage locker.

*sighs*…..I know what you mean….its great to *help*…but its nice to be NEEDED in a personal sort of way too…….Major Hugs to you!!…..miss talking to yas and stuff…….

trust me I understand… my mom is constantly asking me for advise.. whether it’s somthing as simple as what should I wear, to how can we figure out the money to pay the bills, what should I about ___ (insert any male name here) or friends online.. it is great being needed.. but you are right.. it is nice when people want you because they want “you” not somthing you’ve learned.. ~Romeo~

I completely understand. But, there are times that you spend time with your friends because they like to spend time with you, not because they need something? If not, perhaps you need to start initiating that feeling of being needed. hugs.

I understnad exactly what you mean. I was accused today of letting work run my life…. when I only want to help the people there that I care about…….
