My day (part III)
02:15pmI get a call from the Director of Classified Personnel to come down to her office. I don’t care how perfect you are, a call like that brings back memories of going to the principal’s office in second grade! I am thinking okay, what did I do now? I get there and Gloria, from another pod, is sitting there, too. I service both of their home iMacs; this was a technical consultation!
After about 15 minutes in Jill’s office, I go back up to Gloria’s office, and show her how to access her Earthlink email over the Internet. She also asks me about a scanner and hub she would like to buy.
When I return to my desk, there’s a copy of a memo from the Superintendent (bonus: guess what kind of firm I work for) talking about company Internet use policy. It refers to a Regulation number, so I spend the next 15 minutes with the secretary for the Super, discussing if I should post that Regulation on our web site. The answer is yes, and after finding the right version of the right document, I have returned to my desk after a hiatus of almost an hour.
Things are seldom boring around here.
Except drawing these people…
03:16pmInternet use is increasing here around the end of the day, and I am getting to much dropout on the Ambient channel. So I am switching to “The X”. I usually get less congestion with it.
03:25pmJust got an email that a technologist at another building will be leaving her position. I am happy for her moving up and on, but I will miss knowing her. I sent a reply asking her to pick a day for us to do lunch or something.
Someday, I will be sending out that kind of an e-mail. *sigh, slow smile*
03:48pmSanity break. I find our receptionist Linda laughing about getting new FedExShip software, but not having a CD-ROM on her machine to install it with. I borrow her CD and copy the software from my machine through the network to hers. I hope it installs.
04:45pmI spent most of the time until 4:30 helping Linda get the software installed. It turns out that the software will need a proxy to get through our firewall, so I will need to call I.T. tomorrow and get that going.
The last 15 minutes I spent helping out and talking with an old friend of the family. Randy was one of my older brother’s friends. He works in a different building, and just stopped by to check out some t-shirts we are selling. So we chatted for a few; I gave him my brothers’s email address, and so on.
Now I am shutting down my machine, drinking the rest of my tea and pop and water, and gathering things to leave. I also need to plan my evening… Drama at 7pm. Its cool and grey out right now. Better stay indoors. I need to get gas. Thus need to get cash. I will get dinner at the grocery store on my way to drama practice. So, bank, gas, home – relax, change, clean some – 6:30 store, church, then home to clean somemore. May go to my other office, and do some computer time. Need to play StarCraft and keep my account active (bonus: guess my StarCraft handle) May get a movie instead. Watch it while cleaning.
Continued….
My boyfriend does computer stuff at his company too. Do you get to check peoples emails and see what they look at on the internet? I think that would be a cool job, just regulating what people look at. Hope you have a great night! ~~Michelle

Thanks for including me in your entry. It’s good to know that I can bring some sort of joy to someone’s life, even if I am only 1/29 people on your list…=)
