Stars

It was a clear cold night, and even in the city the air was so transparent you could reach up and touch the stars. She had been feeling down on herself again, as she does from time to time, and I was trying to cheer her up. I pointed to the constellation Orion and traced the path to Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, and said that bright star was her. She gave a melancholy grin and shook her head. As we walked towards one of the highest buildings in town, I had an idea.

I brought her to the observation deck at the top floor and looked down at the city spread below. The lights mirrored the stars above, twinkling in the night, a little self contained universe. I held her hand in mine and told her to imagine the city lights were stars, a galaxy laid out at her feet. Then I whispered something in her ear,

“And Sweetheart, all those stars are looking up to you.”

You know, Orion and I have a special bond. I was big on stars as a kid, and I mean obsessed, really obsessed. I still am, along with Greek mythology. Haha. But yes, Orion and I, we’re buds. And I adore you. :]
