In the Key of Love
Music has a special hold over me, and I have found that I often remember people and events in terms of songs. The joy of music has been with me almost ever since I can remember; in fact, one of my first memories is my mom signing to me. She is totally tone deaf, but to a three year old her voice was the most beautiful sound on earth.
My first love has her own song of course, and when I hear it I think of blue eyes and dimples, the tentative gropings and sweet sensations of first intimacies, and delicate perfume with strawberry flavored lips. I remember the song that was playing when we broke up, and years later I still feel sad when I hear it.
When a person in our lives gets a song, it means they are special, a person of significance, and the more songs they have, the more we love them. My woman has dozens of songs now, some are sad indeed, but most are upbeat and make me smile.
Here’s to music, and here’s to love.
It’s not working *sad face* But yeah, people and times in my life totally have songs.

And you know what I’m listening to know? “I learnt the truth at seventeen, that love was just for beauty queens…” ~

this very topic has been the cause of entirely too many bad decisions in my life. (i.e., dumping a GOOD guy so i could have filthy, dysfunctional sex with a HORRIBLE guy. and all because this damn song – which was hugely popular at the time and, thus, constantly on the radio – made me think of horrible guy, to the point of absolute obsession. what’s worse, the sex ended up being completely disappointing. LAME!)

ryn: Rob, I don’t have an epi-pen. I have to go in for skin tests, etc…but haven’t made the time for it. I pretty much know what I am allergic too and can control it for the most part. Thanks for the advice though. 🙂 It’s just that kitties are soooo cute!

I hope when you think of me it equates to something slow, soulful, and sultry–something with an edge of bluesy, passionate yearning to it. I definitely hope it’s not Taps–LOL!

This says it all. As to your 3-year-old ears not minding your mom’s melody, I can’t help but laugh as I recall what happened with my grandson and my daughter on their visit this past weekend: My daughter started to sing a pop song that was on the radio, and my grandson said, “No, Mommy. No, sing.” LOL! We both cracked up, as she realizes how tone deaf she is 🙂

true true. music does that. of course i think in lyrics which is annoying at time, but it is amazing how powerful music can be.
