I hate the term "spooning."  It makes me want to vomit.  Seriously.  Why does it sound so sexually graphic to me?  Gross.  anyway.  I’ve been busy at work these days.  I’ve framed art by the guy who did the cover art for Nirvana’s In Utero album and Tool’s Lateralus.  Original artwork worth tens of thousands of dollars.  Fun stuff.  The most annoying job for me, though, has been the 4 giant collages we’re doing for Lisa Beaman.  They’re 48"X96" (which is larger than most doorways) on some weird particle board like clipboard material which is oddly sized and not at all flat.  And Very heavy too by the way.

So she’s getting linen wrapped liners for them which have to go around the 4 foot by 8 foot collages, and we had to make the frames to fit around the liners.  It takes a lot of space to build these things because they have to be done flat on a surface that is large enough to support them (i.e. the FLOOR) and we don’t exactly have enough floor space since we need work tables and walkways and stuff, so we had to glue the frames together after hours on the show room floor.  Once we got the liners put together we realized that each liner was about 1/4 inch too short.  The measuring scale on the saw only goes to about 70 inches so for anythign larger you have to set up an extension on the stop and essentially eyeball the measurment as close as you can get it.

Well that sounds like a pretty cool job to me.

There’s an “outdoor gallery” around here where all the works were done on 4’x8′ “artboard”. It’s supposed to stand up to outdoor conditions. Huge, heavy stuff. Not framed though, that would suck to have to do that. How have things been?
