Cap 10K

We got up really early today and played at the Austin American Statesman Capitol 10K marathon. We’ve played this for 3 years straight. I have huge fuckin’ blisters that I’ll have to pop for practice tomorrow. 😛 gross. We haven’t had a decently long practice in a long time. Anyway, we got there at about 6:45 and we got some hot chocolate with coffee mixed in from Magnolia Cafe. It was gooooood. It was weird, they didn’t have the power running from the building like they did the last 2 years but they had a little generator for us to use. It was a good little generator. It got us thinking, too. We could use one of those to play a show on a float or something. Or like I suggested, we could get a large truck and take out the sides and replace them with projection screens and set up projectors on the inside of the cargo area so they shine on the screens, so there’d be random images with us silhouetted against the side, and we could hook a sound system up and drive around playing live music. Which would be awesome. Anyway we had tasty cocoa and jammed for like 2 and a half hours.

and Joe kept singing that song. Hehehehe. There was a great crowd reaction when we busted out with Time by Pink Floyd. We also did a few loose jams. Once when we were trying to decide what to play some girls ran by that were whoopin and hollerin and I started playing a random jam and they stopped to dance for a good minute before we took that jam and busted it into Invisibo. Some motorcycle cops kept asking Jonathan (our sound guy and Joey’s cousin) if the songs we were playing were ours. He was impressed. Also we had a couple people run by and stuff tips in our tip jar, or snag one of our business cards. Oh! and before we started this cute little girl was watching Joe messing around on his drums, and her mom said she wanted to play drums, but she was really shy around boys already. Just before we started that little girl gave Joe a flower and he tucked it behind his ear and kept it there until he got home. It was sweet. We also played some new stuff, and after we were done we decided we wanted Chinese food so we hit up the Hunan Lion and had the buffet lunch. all in all we had a kickass day.
