October, how I loathe thee…

 It’s been a long October.

An emergency room visit, 2 EEG’s and a CT scan later, and Sera-frog is now on anti-seizure meds, and awaiting an MRI. Her spirits are great but I’m reading the list of side-effects on the side of the bottle and cringing, praying to God that she doesn’t have any problems with it since the side effects are worse than the seizures.

The only thing she’s bent out of shape about is the "No monkey bars or swim lessons" restriction that the doctor gave her. Upon hearing the doctor’s orders she shook her little fist in a gesture of undeniable angst and declared, "Curse you, seizures!" She also complained about the IV, saying her veins won’t cooperate and give away her lifejuice.

I love my spawn.

We have no medical insurance. I’m doing the Badgercare Shuffle right now, doing battle with the state in an effort to get a little help. Lord knows that after all my years of paying taxes, I could use a little bit of it back, just for a little while. Brian is waging a war with the Army, again, trying to get medical through them. We’ve been eligible for 2 years, but they refuse to process our applications. We think we may have found a chink in their armor, and Brian’s going in for the kill. Maybe we’ll get in this time.

I had to take out a loan to pay the cell phone bill. Our cells are our lifelines; with Sera’s health we cannot be unaccessible. I never thought I would fall to the level of College Student, having other people pay my cell phone bill, but we had to pay for utilities this month and the closing on the re-fi. We barely had anything left over for gas and food.

I’ve had an interesting offer from a family member; she would loan me the money to go to become a Certified Nursing Assistant, and then when I was working I could pay her back. This idea has some merit. I know CNA’s make decent money where I live, and I would be helping people above and beyond, "Welcome to Farm and Fleet! Can I help you find anything?" I might like it enough to take some nursing classes. Maybe there’s something to this plan…. And if nothing else, my education regarding caring for my daughter would increase.

I’m at a crossroads. Now to pick the right path for myself, my family, and my world.

I just hope it’s all the same path.

On a positive note, we’re going as the Zombie Family Next Door for Halloween. We all have zombie get-ups and even a couple of zombie dogs to drag around with us. Best family outing ever. Sera is the de-facto zombie cheerleader-

"What do we want?"

"BRAINS……"

"When do we want ’em?"

"BRAINS….."

God, I love my kid.

RYN–Aha, I see I’m not the only one who is completely entertained by sites like LOLZCATS and LOLZDOGS. I find myself talking to the girls in Lolz-speak all the time. “Does you wants some noms?” “Come gets da noms from Mommy!” Ah well, they seem to understand me just fine! šŸ˜›
