Here again, with hope….
2008 was a disaster.
This is me, the indomitable Homesquash, hoping that 2009 will bring positive and pleasant things to both myself and those around me.
This includes the world, of course. As of Jan. 20th, things can only get better.
This is a short list of global events I would like to see take place over the course of the next year:
1) Closure in Iraq. Not necessarily withdrawal, but more of a focus on giving Iraq back to the Iraqis. Not our country, people. Time to let it go.
2) Peace in the Gaza and a firm truce between Israel and Palestine. Really, both of these groups have committed so many atrocities against each other that neither one is in the right anymore. They need to sit down and behave. If my toddler acted like that she’d get a time out, so…. time for a time out. UN enforced, if necessary.
3) A major business that fails and takes its just desserts with grace instead of whining to the Gov’t to save them with our tax dollars. I guess I see it as ‘you fucked it up, now you get the bill’. Maybe if the Gov’t made the people running those businesses accountable for their wasteful and shortsighted management when they come crawling for cash I’d feel better about it, but the bailouts just go to pay for condos and spa treatments and luxury cruises. So, let ’em drown.
4) Incentives for businesses that go green. Incentives for vehicle manufacturers to stop pumping out those gas suckers and start looking into alternate fuel sources. Or even cars that get quasi-decent milage, for Christ’s sake.
5) Fixing the damage done to our military. Stretched to its limit, we need to look into spending some of that money being shovelled into the war to help our armed forces put itself back together. They serve so we don’t have to. Time to show a little love.
As for my personal state of affairs, let’s just say that my wish list is short and sweet:
1) Brian selling his book. He’s tweaked and fine-tuned that damn thing until it squeaks. Now it’s time for it to fly. I just hope a publisher is there to catch it when it lands.
2) Seraphina- keep on growing, baby.
3) Good health for my family, my friends, myself, and my animals. After the chaos of the last year, we could all use a break.
4) Financial stability. Not wealth, just balance. Squaring up. A good tax return would be a nice start.
5) Brian’s foray into paramedic school in the fall. He loves what he does and we think it’ll be a good way for him to make more money doing nearly the same damn thing. We just hope we can suck the loans we’ll need to pay for his last year of his bachelor’s degree, since he’s spending a year of the state GI bill going to paramedic school.
All of the above may be wishful thinking, but I have to think positive. Hope is all we have, especially now.
Hope and love.
A good 2009 to all you out in OD land,
-Rebecca
