Oh, so angry…..

Something happened today that made my blood boil, and I’m still furious about it… the kind of angry that doesn’t quite set in completely, the kind where it feels like you’re still in shock.

I sent my daughter, Sera, who is two and a half, to her Grandma J’s to play while I went out to the barn to work the boys(who all did marvelously, even Doc, who is still kind of a knob). When I got back to Grandma J’s afterwards, she came downstairs with Sera in her arms and said," Something happened today and you’re going to be really mad at me, but she’s ok and I don’t think it’ll leave a scar…"

WTF? Excuse me?

She rushed on. "(insert horrible dog’s name here) bit her this afternoon, but it wasn’t his fault, Sera fell on him and he got upset and bit her. But Sera was jumping around and…."

More excuses followed. I looked at my baby girl’s cheek, which was bright red and swollen with a puncture just above the jawline and a bruise less than an inch from her right eye. I didn’t say anything about it, I just said, "Ok." and packed up Seraphina and brought her home. To be honest, I think I was in shock.

He bit her…. IN THE FACE.

She’s been cold, shocky, tired, and sad, tonight, and I have now graduated from shocked to livid. I am a dog owner. We have two dogs at home. She has tripped over the Aussie, Chances, and fell on the little one, Stella, who is 20 lbs of Stella Fat. My dogs have tolerated having her around well, they look at her as a puppy in need of supervision. And most of the time Sera is very good with animals; cats will come to her to be petted and dogs follow her around. My kid is good with pets and animals in general. A house full of dogs and cats and a barn full of horses has taught her that.

I want to punt that horrible little dog. Sera just came over as I was typing just now and said. " I didn’t mean to. I just fell on accident on (insert awful dog’s name here). I’m sorry."

SHE’S SORRY? That nasty little dog bites her and SHE’S sorry? What the hell did Grandma J tell her?

I am so angry. My husband doesn’t even know yet. The shit is gonna hit the fan when he gets home, I can tell you.

I need a time out. I’m going to go finish making dinner and maybe I’ll have cooled down.

I’m not holding my breath on that account.

Have you taken her to see someone about that bite? It sounds pretty nasty, & her symptoms sound strange too. I hope everything works out & that your daughter heals well.

Thanks for your note! I’m glad to hear that Sera is doing better. Btw, what a pretty name! I try not be a purist or perfectionist about anything… not even the raw food lifestyle. We’re human… gotta let ourselves be. Namaste!

Oh man!!! I would take her to get looked at and report it. Especially since she would be around that dog again… seeing you said “grandma”… if there is a next time with that dog…. it might turn out to be more serious then this is.

Punt the dog. All of our dogs that we’ve had have been great with kids, just because we always disciplined them early in how they behave around small things, be they other dogs or kids. We don’t have dogs anymore but it was something we always trained them for, so that they always played well together. Your anger is well justified.
