eight years gone

So a few days ago I got an email.

Open Diary is back!

It had been so long since I had written in here, I nearly forgot it existed.

My diary was still in the system, it said, but I’d have to ‘reclaim’ it before it would become publicly visible again.

A few moments trepidation followed. Did I really want to revisit this extremely personal and sometimes painful chronicle of my late high school, college and post-collegiate years? What about all those corny poems I wrote? Should I open them once again to the world?

Of course!

Well, here it is. I actually forgot that I wrote in this all the way up to 2010 when I was living in Halifax.

I haven’t decided yet whether I want to start writing in here again. But I decided it would be fun to re-read all of my entries and write comments updating the things I was writing about. I just finished last night.

Along the way, I also started a drinking game for whenever I posted song lyrics, I graded all my haikus, and rated the cringeworthiness of all my poems. Some actually aren’t that bad.

If this interests you, my suggestion is to go all the way back to my first entry in May 2003, entitled “The Ewok incident” and work your way forward from there.

It’s amazing how fresh some of the memories are, considering the length of time since I last visited OD is greater than the time from my first post to my last.
