In like a lion!!

Wow. It’s already March. It unbelievable how quickly the time is passing; it’s stunning, and quite sad. I’m already sad about having to leave Halifax come August.

For the past month, I have been working at McDonald’s, volunteering at the Blood Clinic, and showing Krys around the city. She arrived late on the 20th with her brother. We took a quick walk downtown and then turned in, since we were all tired. On the Sunday, we went to Peggy’s Cove, Herring Cove, the Titanic Cemeteries, and then to a pub to listen to Signal Hill. Apparently they are THE band to see; they were good- a cover band. On Monday, we put David on the train back to Oshawa.

Since then, Krys has been learning the city and looking for work. We have been all over the downtown, to Dalhousie, Mic Mac Mall in Darthmouth via the ferries, to Walmart at the other mall, to Bulk Barn in the northeast part of the city, and a few other places, including the grocery store!! Good times for sure.

She got a job housekeeping at the Marriott Residence just a few blocks away so that will help keep her busy and out of the apartment. Also, the income is nice haha.

As for me, I have been getting over 20 hrs a week at McDonald’s, so I suppose that’s not too bad. It’s alright- I really shouldn’t complain. It is money, and I am learning something new- once again, another experience. I like that I get to do food prep and work in a kitchen again. Eventually I will probably be trained on front counter, so that will give me the customer service aspect that I would like. It is nice working with other people close to my age but at times I find they can be quite young in the maturity level haha. I guess I can too and I just need to get to know them before I can judge. I have also applied to work at Citadel Hill for the summer, so we will see what comes out of that. Hopefully I can get hired on there- that would be amazing!! I have also taken another 2 shifts at the Blood Clinic, since the last entry. I enjoy doing it- it’s fun meeting people and just getting out doing good. I have another shift on Tuesday from 4-7:30 pm- it should be alright. I am going to bring a book for the slow times, though.

The weather lately has been quite intense. March really came in like a lion! There was a huge windstorm- blew shingles off, branches down, debris everywhere. There were gusts up to about 80kms/hr with sustaining winds up in the 55-60kms/hr. It was intense. Temperature wise it hasn’t been too bad lately, but with the winds, it’s always really cold. Today is the first sunny day we have had in a while- first since Krys has gotten here- and it’s my day off! Whoot!! However, there are still winds so who knows what I will get up to. Who am I kidding, it’s always windy here…everyday there is some sort of wind. Today is a weaker one, so I shouldn’t complain.

Outside of all of that, there’s not too much to report. I am still reading the history of Atlantic Canada and have been borrowing a bunch of movies from the library the last week ans seeing some good ones. Hopefully the next while gives me enough hours, good weather and good times!

So what are you doing in August?! Why are you leaving? I’m glad you don’t hate McDonalds! What is Krys doing there?
