An awful night
OMG, I was too scared, I was thinking too much and hundreds and thousands of thoughts were crossing my mind in each and every minute.
At one time, I was hoping everything would be all right soon and nothing to worry about and at the very next second, I was too much worried thinking how would I manage all this in the morning if couldn’t resolve the problem. It sounds funny now but I was really terrified that night L.
I was up whole night working on the problem and worrying and thinking of the next morning production.
Actually, I had a big time problem at work on Wednesday evening. Few of the PCs were slow on network so my network team suggested doing a reset on the switch (the device which connects PCs on a network). Since network was down, I brought all my servers down too so that they would not try to communicate with each other and raise all kind of alerts. So, after all the users were gone, an engineer reset it and after that I started bringing up all my servers one after another. And when I tried to start my Primary Database Server, it decided to have some more rest lol and didn’t come up, did again but no luck and started giving strange sounds too, my heart stared sinking but it was fine as I had the Backup Database Server too that was replica of the primary so data is safe J. I asked my engineer to log a call with HP (vendor) and the meantime I started to bring back the backup server up and wow, as soon as it came up, two of five HDDs (hard disks) decide to show not functioning, grrrrr, still, I had the courage to check whether critical data was there or not and the opposite to my expectations, all logical drives (like ‘D’ drive or ‘E’ drive on your computer) were missing, time to start crying lol.
God, what to do now, one is down and other is not showing any data L, what would users do in the morning, thinking this, I was really getting numb but you have to show the courage and tell you team, not to worry, we would manage it fine and everything would be up soon lol while they could read it at your tensed face haha.
So, started opening the case/cabinet of the server, checked everything from RAM, processor, HDDs, to controller card, display card and mother board and found out motherboard wanted to announce its retirement lol.
Thank God, HDDs were fine so data was safe; thanks to HP too for sending an engineer soon but they wouldn’t do it unless you give a good lecture to their technical support manager and remind them how much money do we pay them for a 24*7 support lol. So, first engineer came and after two hours hardware came and we put everything on the place and started it, it came up fine and I could see the data so was relaxed now J. At least, there would not be any IT downtime in the morning J.
Then we started working
on the other server, HDDs not functioning and logical drives were missing, I spoke to few engineers in Bangalore first then was connected to US support team and thanks to their advice and support we could get the data back as well while there was a mere chance of 1% only J.
So as we say, everything will be fine at the end, my servers came up fine too and working fine now, and since I spent all my night working on this, continuous 24 hours so didn’t come at work yesterday and that’s why my notes were delayed too lol.
And irony is this; those PCs are still slow on network due to which I had this server nightmare lol.
Oh sheesh! That is a nightmare, thankfully the problem got fixed! I would not have known what to do in a situation like that! So glad it all got figured out hehe!
