Black utterances of a depraved imagination

I have only a little time to write, because it’s late and I need to go to bed soon, and meant to have read more philosophy recently than I’ve read, and I thought I should maybe do that tonight, but it’s getting late and I’m tired and I have to get up early tomorrow, so maybe it’s best if I just get to bed sooner, but in any case (which does not have a ‘u’ in it, silly Jonathan), I shouldn’t spend a long time writing. I’ll give myself an outline! I have three things I want to write about.

I. Texas Bans Marriage!

Overzealous anti-gay lawmakers in Texas seem to have gotten carried away! In an attempt to ban gay marriage, lawmakers in the Texas House of Representatives and Senate seem to have passed a constitutional amendment that would ban all marriage! Here is the full text of the newly proposed section of Article I of the Texas Constitution, proposed by HJR 6, which has been passed by both chambers:

Sec. 32. (a) Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman.
(b) This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage.

A very radical change indeed! Texas cannot recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage! I’m not sure what all would count as identical or similar to marriage, but I do know of one legal status that is definitely identical to marriage: marriage! I didn’t realize the Texas legislature was so broadly anti-family.

Voters in the state of Texas will get a chance to vote on this Constitutional amendment in November. Let’s hope that they stand together to protect the institution of marriage from this anti-family Constitutional amendment.

II. Interns started at work today!

My job this summer is management of a group of college interns at a legal publishing company. The interns’ first day was today — it went pretty well, although the situation in the building is dumb (our space isn’t ready yet, so we’re in a random room downstairs) and my boss talks WAY too much. I’m tired after a long day there.

III. Gondoliers sing-through.

Amazing cast. I should have gotten one of the minor principals — I’d definitely be a better Georgio than Shelton, and I’d probably be a better Antonio than John. Oh well. Egad, does Dennis have an amazing voice as Giuseppe, though.

Meghan, of my gigantic crush from last summer, is there. Hot as ever, and a great voice. I’m totally over her, though. Alix is around, and cute and nice. We’ll see how things go.

Ok, I’m tired. More writing another time.

Hah! Texas is awesome. We can swap intern-supervision stories!

If only I could believe most voters wouldn’t read that very thing and say, “Oh, you know what they mean.” As if it’s okay to allow something on the basis of what the people meant when they said instead of what they actually said. I need a lie-down now.

RYN: Of course my life is fantastic! I met you recently, didn’t I? 😉 Ooh, I’m smooth. Or, just tired and saying things I don’t normally say, but things I do mean with the best of intentions. Right.
