one lucky girl

Ya know…it was funny…I went to dinner last night with a friend and an old friend that I hadn’t seen in 11 years! The 3 of us (well, actually 4- but she doesn’t live in state) of us were best friends in middle school but then separated and went to two different high schools and lost touch (not cause of anything major- just cause of convenience really I guess)..

Well anyway- over dinner last night (which was really fun and soo good to catch up!) we were reminisching about different things and about what had happened to all of the people we used to know or be friends with, etc. and it was just really interesting. So many people have gone in so many different ways. Some have changed for the better, some have changed for the worst. Some have been more successful than you would have thought, some have “wasted” their talent and/or opportunities. There are many sad stories (drugs, death, etc.) but there are also many happy stories (marriage, kids, great jobs, etc.).

The point is… after I left I was thinking about my life and how it’s turned out. And how the older you get the more apparent it becomes that you are where you are because of so many different factors…your family- especially your parents, your environment, the people you were friends with, and the decisions that you’ve made. Of course there are things that I would change- if there is a person out there that says that there isn’t ONE thing they would change then they’re just lying to themselves – but for the most part, I am who I am because of everything. And it feels so good to sit back and honestly feel that I would not change shoes with anyone else. It might have taken 29 years to believe that or to get to this point…but it feels damn good to say it, and even better to really feel it. I truly am blessed.
