eww, ya nasty!

I walked towards the bathroom, towels in hand. My sister stood at the sink, brushing her teeth. Looking at me, she teased “freak”. I shot right back, “takes one to know one,” and she was just as quick with a “guess who I learned it from?” retort. With but a moment’s pause, I replied, “only the best,” as I hung my towels on the rack and started the bath water. We laughed; I turned to look at her. I’d been itching to tell someone, and since she was right there as I was getting ready to shower, it was convenient to tell her.

“Guess what I don’t use anymore?”

She stopped, mid-brushstroke, white toothpaste foamed around her lips. She gently slipped the brush out of her mouth and glanced at it, puzzled. “A toothbrush?”

“Ew, NO!!,” I laughed, “what would make you say that?”

“Well,” she mumbled, sliding the toothbrush back into her mouth, “I was brushing my teeth.”

“Silly… no. I stopped using shampoo.”

Her jaw dropped. Foaming mouth agape, with a toothbrush hanging out of it she wrinkled her nose. EWWWW, ya nasty!!!!”

“Well I still wash it.”

“With what?”

“Baking soda.”

She stepped toward me, and pulled a peice of my hair up to smell it. I knew there was nothing to smell, but her nose was still wrinkled up as she stepped back, and continued brushing her teeth.

I just shook my head. I knew she wouldn’t understand, but I decided just to push her buttons a little further on how “gross” her big sister is. Gesturing towards the sink, I said, “Well I’ll still use a toothbrush, but I’m probably going to stop using toothpaste soon too. I can use baking soda for that as well… with a peroxide rinse.”

“That’s so disgusting, Jen.”

“No it’s not… Baking soda is a cleanser. And a deodorizer.” A pause while she just glared at me, disgustedly. Sighing, “I knew you wouldn’t get it.”

baking soda is the shit. i use it in place of all those nasty toxic household cleansers. its so much safer and cost friendly too.

You should give up shaving.

arm and hammer even makes a baking soda tooth paste, so it can’t be that strange.

December 3, 2006

I am excited about trying it, but a little reluctant all the same just because it’s so… new and different. Different tends to be better though

I don’t understand either! Hehe, I love my shampoo, it smells gorgeous! Each to their own, I guess, lol xxx

I’m afraid I disagree with Timmy about the shaving deal. I wish we could all take a pill that would make all of our hair below our neck just fall out and never grow back.

i’m remembering something in my old chemistry days about mixing baking soda and vinegar…and I don’t think I’d want that chemical reaction happening in my hair. but it’s an interesting idea. I think i’ll stick to bed head though. ~

and by ‘bed head’ i mean the vastly overpriced hair care products by tigi, not the idea of waking up and doing nothing to my hair whatsoever. ~

yes baking soda is awesome. whoever invented it is probably a very rich mofo. otoh… exactly how well does it deodorize and could it be used in place of an underarm deodorant and how?

How come I only see one entry in your diary? Check out my entry called Christmas 2006 Gifts For My BF Edit and tell me what you think of the items I put in that entry

Does it work? Does your hair feel any different? Is it worth it? I’m so curious. I might just have to try it and find out. Do you like it better than using shampoo?

December 6, 2006

I tried the no poo thing.. made my hair relatively hard to manage, but it could just be me. I’ve been wanting to try just baking soda for toothpaste but I think I need to get the holes fixed first. A peroxide rinse would hurt too much at this point.
