adventures in baltimore
Oh the wonderful things you can learn when subjected to a day in the city and using the public transportation system.
–>It often is faster to take the Light Rail (train) farther north than you want to go and then take a bus back south because on certain routes, the Southbound buses are faster.
–>It is ALWAYS worth it to buy the day pass for $3.50 rather than pay for an individual trip.
–>Make sure you know how to get where you’re going, where your stop is, and what connections you can get BEFORE boarding any transportation service. Otherwise you’ll find yourself stranded on the border between north and south Baltimore.
–>If you miss your bus or train, you could potentially be SOL (shit outta luck) for as much as an hour.
–>When looking at a map west is LEFT and east is RIGHT (oops)
–>The #13 bus is only unlucky if you accidentally board the westbound bus when you wanted to go east.
–>I get the feeling that West Baltimore is probably not a place you want to find yourself alone after dark o.O
–>There are NO cabs in West Baltimore. Seriously. None.
–>It doesn’t matter how gross and sweaty you think you are–you WILL get hit on by big black guys.
–>If you smile and say “Hi” to aforementioned big black guys, they will think you’re flirting back. But it’s better than not saying anything and appearing rude to a big black guy in the middle of West Baltimore. (I have nothing against big black guys, honest–I’m related to quite a few… but when you’re a young girl travelling alone, you become more aware of such things. This could probably be extended to big white guys too except I didn’t see any. Especially not in West Baltimore.)
–>If you are not standing at the bus stop for at least a block before the bus gets there, it will NOT stop for you.
–>Always have exact change, unless you wanna end up paying $5 for a $3.50 ticket.

Baltimore will always have a special place in my heart because it’s where I saw the last of my three Rolling Stones concerts. When? November, 1969. No kidding.

ryn: I’ve thought about youTube. The main problem is that it’s blocked from work so I can’t post them from here, or see them from here, which … well, sucks, cuz that’s where I spend most of my time online.

RYN: Aw yay, I’m missed! 🙂 I’m back now anyway. Bus fares in England are ridiculous! I pay about 7 pounds a day in buses alone. This is all so true.
