“its raining…” [poem]

“…its pouring, the old man is snoring”
“down came the rain, and washed the spider out”
~Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes

“Let the rain fall down and wake my dreams
Let it wash away my sanity”
~Hilary Duff, Come Clean

before the rain, it is
silent
deafening
sound to my unaccustomed ears

the rain it falls
down
up
i turn my face

letting it wash me
over
under
this coat i am dry

shedding the coat i stand
bare
clothed
in a blanket of darkness

suddenly lightning flashes through the
night
day
seems but a dull dark memory

thunder erupts with a loud
sound
silence
follows, interrupted only by rain patter

the light and the boom mirror my
turmoil
peace
is found in the raindrops

steadily they fall
heavier
lightening
my emotional load

they run over me as i stand
motionless
moving
my troubles to places forgotten

and they stop.
i breathe in.
the world is silent again, but for a moment.
then the crickets resume their song, and the world begins again.
