updating yet again

some of you people seriously need to update more often… i know, i don’t have much room to talk, but i have been updating more regularly as of late, so anyway….
i am like so ready to be done with school… today consisted of me doing my calc hw in euro, sleeping through spanish, doing spanish hw in lit and not doing much of anything else in calc. at least what we’re doing in calc is somewhat fun 🙂 anyway, lets recap the weekend, shall we? on friday i went to work after school (boring) after that i went to the band concert (woo hoo, go band!) at which i got to meet both sets of ryan’s g-parents… fun stuff… as laurren said to me “i saw you meeting the whole family… you guys are definitely married now” lol… after the concert, went back to his house and spent a few hours chatting w/ his mom and g-parents from new york (grandma and grandpa sweeeney) which was rather interesting. i learned that ryan got his very first phone call when he was like 2 years old, from eric pyne (maybe *thats* why he has phone-a-phobia? 😛 lol) anyway… on saturday i was at a car wash from 8am til approximately 1pm… fun stuff– actually ’twasn’t too bad, except i got sunburned *gasp* and now i have a funny tanline that is *def* not gonna match my dress for prom… oh well, such is life… saturday afternoon i took my sister to wally world to buy her some shorts and a bathing suit. and me prom jewellery. we also stopped by fashion bug to get the shawl that i saw when i was there w/ JM that was $14, only to find out that everything in the store was on sale for 40% off! so i got it for like $8.40… total sweetness… then i came home, and carlini picked me up to go get flowers for our boys for prom… then we picked up laurren, and JM, and went to pizza hut, found out that there was *NO WAY* we were gonna be able to sneak carlini’s sisser into the movie, and sent her home w/ her mommy   how sad… then we watched troy… so now you will hear my movie review 😀 ok… storyline is good.– obv. its a classic– however the battle scenes were slightly too gory for my personal taste (even though i didn’t mind it as much as some people do) the movie itself was drawn out much too long… i mean, i love ancient greek and roman culture and the legends/history/stories that come along with it, but i was getting antsy by the end of the first hour! (total length was 2 hours 43 min) other things that i didn’t like… almost none of the characters had any substance. the two main reasons i wanted to see the movie (ie Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom) ended up being the two of the things i most disliked about the movie. both characters were womanizers. Achilles (Brad Pitt) was much too arrogant for his own good… to the point that he becomes a character you almost love to hate. Paris (Orlando Bloom) was flaky, cowardly, and childish in a spoiled-rich-boy-i-can-have-anything-i-want-just-b/c-my-daddy’s-king sort of way… there were only two characters that i liked in the entire film… Hector (paris’s older brother, played by Eric Bana) and Priam (the king… forget the actor’s name though) they were the only characters that struck me as honest and straightforward (although king priam put a lil too much faith in the gods, and not enough in reality, but such is life) I did like however, that although it was set in the time of greek gods and such, there was never any weight lent to any of the legends or belief in gods.. not like the (movie) odyssey, where they acutally met up with gods and sirens, and other mythological creatures/beings– there were speculations, prayers, and rituals, but no godly interference, which made the story very true-to-life. i also liked that there were allusions to the other two epic poems (troy was based on the iliad) the odyssey and the aneid. the end of the movie, especially with those allusions, set it up very nicely for at least two sequels. however unless they can find a way to tell it in shorter form with less gore, i cannot guarantee that they will be good movies… overall i give Troy 3 out of 5 stars.
moving on… then we went home… sunday morning, i wake up and my mommy tells me to go pick up my sisser from sunday school… but take the van (which, btw, i had never driven before then) b/c she wants me to be comfortable w/it b/c i’m gonna have to drive it when my car goes to get inspected.. oh joy… its so high up! i feel like i’m in a bus… i don’t like being up that high while i’m driving… my car is just perfect.. not too high like the van… not too low like daddy’s camaro… i *love* my car… anyway… then sunday afternoons… went to the RHB concert (go carlini, go! :-D) after which ryan came over here for dinner… my family… very dangerous… i recall ryan mumbling something about the perks of being an only child… anyway, i’ll try and talk to my sisters… try to get them to behave like *humans* the next time he comes over (usually they at least try to impress company… it was hard trying to convince him that they’re *always* like that) hrumph… maybe they can be *eliminated* … i could deal with being an only child, really i could 😀 or at least just one of them… that way they couldn’t fight :- oh well…

new catchphrase: (well not *that* new) such is life

Well, if you ever do read Homer’s Iliad, that’s exactly how Achilles and Paris are. In fact, I don’t think they played it up ENOUGH. Achilles was absolutely the most arrogant warrior in Greek history, and Paris was even more cowardly that they made him out to be. All things considered, I thought the movie was done well. Should be noted, though, that all the war scenes that you see . . .

actually occurring at Troy didn’t take place until about 10 years into the war . . . not 10 minutes. Oh, and the whole thing with the “Sword of Troy” and Aenius? . . . yeah . . . never happened. THAT kinda pissed me off. Anyway . . . that’s my semi-informational rant on the matter. I’ll get off my soapbox.
