Perhaps a slightly bad idea, it was …
note to self … it may not have been particularly a good idea to dare Miss Universe to do its worst… careful what you ask for, it may just come around and sink it’s malicious fangs squarely in your posterior.
Firstly, within short proximity of said dare, I receive a package from Columbia House Canada, to whom I am a member … the contents being a selection of the month that somehow slipped past my radar. What’s worse, despite it being KD Lang (whom I normally cannot stand), the CD is made up of a virtual who’s who of Canadian songwriters, including Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Jane Siberry, Leonard Cohen, and Bruce Cockburn … a perusal of the sound clips on the website reveals that these songs aren’t the usual redneck / hippy / jump around stage like an orangutan style, but rather mellow … an unexpected keeper.
Now comes the real fun … the proverbial ass-ripping of the schmuck on eBay (I will not dub him at this time, as I do not plan on having him on my radar for a particularly long period of time) who is attempting to weasel out of his end of the auction. Without paypal at my disposal (since I don’t have a credit card or bank account at this time), I ensure that the items I bid on are by users who accept money order, and send by XpressPost to ensure speedy delivery. Anyhoo, said schmuck listed the item with money orders accepted and a shipping cost to Canada–these are the binding terms of the auction, as the eBay user agreement specifies that all terms of the auction must be listed on the listing page. Subsequently, after becoming contractually bound to this item through my winning bid, said Schmuck has contacted me stating that he will not ship to Canada on money order payment, as his bank will not cash a money order, and that he will mail the payment back … too bad for him that he violated the user agreement, and that money orders from CanadaPost can be cashed at any US post office … I may very well have to file a claim for a misrepresented item … logic and technical prowess, do your trick (maybe mom was right–I should have been a lawyer)
I am unsure of what else Miss Universe has to throw at me at this point, but whatever it may be, I’m sure she has every intent to make it an interesting rollercoaster.
