If Hell could give birth to days …

… yesterday would be its firstborn

The day started out rough, and didn’t seem to get any better. I mean, how good can your day possibly be when you wake up to find that your brother being too lazy to pick up the shirt he knocked off the towel rack in the bathroom resulted in cat piss stains on white (non-bleachable) polyester?

Next came the gut-wrenching knowledge that despite wanting to crawl back into bed and go back to sleep, I had to work an 8 hour shift yesterday … normally this wouldn’t be too bad, except for the fact that I worked 6 of those hours with the biggest bitch on staff–the very same one who once asked me “music school? isn’t that where sissies go when they don’t want to get a real job after college?” … There’s more to grumble about here, but first …

FUCKING SNOW

Apparently, around 5:30 yesterday morning, there was an accident involving a semi and a tractor-trailor. Sadly, one of the drivers died in the accident, and the police are having to investigate because of suspected alcohol involvement. On the work front, I got the oh-so-lovely rush of customers around 7:00 last night, most of which wanted to use our restrooms … of course, one of them is STILL out of order after nearly a month has passed since police had to break down the door to get to the 2 guys that robbed the local sears truck. And the fun at work still isn’t over.

About 10 minutes after the rush clears, the power goes out briefly. Easy to fix as far as our tills and pumps go … once the power is on, hit a button and they reset. Of course, we have to call someone out to service the RBC bank machine everytime there is an outage, so he won’t be out until today due to road conditions and the time in which the power dropped out. Somehow, I survived work.

Of course, the power outtage leaves us without internet, because our ISP is too pathetic to have someone stationed in town to simply go and reset the server when there is a power failure … this means no time with my baby after a long, disgustingly pathetic day.

The fun should be about over now, right? WRONG. A 2nd power outtage after midnight (and after mom had gone to bed) left me sitting up until 5:45 this morning, because if by some catastrophe Dad’s alarm didn’t go off, he would oversleep and miss getting out to drive the bus and get the kids to school.

3 hours sleep, gallons of coffee, and another 8 hour shift tonight … I guess today is the afterbirth
