F*#@! My Job
A particular employee has been postponing the application for his security clearance. He has been doing this for good reason – simply he won’t get it, so he will be out of a job.
On more than half a dozen occasions I have communicated with him and his mother in order to get the necessary documentation. Yesterday was the final straw when he didn’t turn up for classes, nor did he tell anyone that he wasn’t going to be in.
I referred to the regional manager, who is aware of the running around that this person is doing and gave me permission to terminate his employment.
I tried calling him and then his mother and no answer. She did try to call me back but that was at 2000hrs and I don’t answer my phone outside of business hours.
So I called his manager and told him when he arrived at work in the morning to send him home and to call me.
At 7am this morning I got a call and I explained to him that I was terminating his employment for poor work ethic, his inability to follow company protocol on numerous occasions and his inability of obtain a security pass after several requests to do so.
His mother got on the phone and started carrying on. I told her, he must be in my office with all his equipment and uniform at which time I will give him his final cheque. She wanted to discuss this with the RM, at which time I told her he may be in the office and if permitting, may be able to speak with him. She seemed to refrain from any further abusive language.
When I arrive at work this morning I tell the RM that both persons will be in at 9 and his mother wants to speak with you. He immediately tells me that he isn’t going to open any sort of dialogue with her and that this was what I was employed for. I told him I understood my job description and that seeming as you’re already in the office you might consider it.
No, he wasn’t going to consider it, so I fold and tell him ok.
8:55 comes around and he then tells me I need to have another person present – which isn’t to be him – when I issue his dismissal and it needs to be done at the depot.
WELL EXCUSE ME! You tell me this 5 MINUTES before they are due to be here. There is no way I can get someone here in 5 minutes, nor can I change the venue.
So angry right now – fucking prick
So I call and defer the meeting until 11 so I can get properly organised AGAIN- without him present.
Fuck you – change it 3 time 5 minutes before it happens, and you’re still in the office! Make my life difficult. I’ve got a dozen OHS site reports due tomorrow I don’t need your shit.

Some people aren’t meant to be in supervisory capacities. He appears to be one of those people.

it’s no surprise he pulled himself out of the mix; you either have great management skills or you don’t, he doesn’t. Don’t take it personally, just do what you need to do to get the job done. 🙂
