Hospital

So whatever illness that I wrote about the other day ended up being much worse for my Lily-bird. John and I both seemed to bounce back in less than 24 hours minus some continued lethargy. Lily, unfortunately, seems to have gotten something else with it or she’s just reacting to it more than us. She didn’t eat anything on Wednesday. She asked for something but it would just sit as she had no desire to actually eat it. Thankfully, I got her to drink some but due to a high fever, the fluids she was taking in just wasn’t enough. She even dry heaved once.

By Thursday morning, she was so miserable and achy that I opted to take her in to immediate care. She was showing possible signs of appendicitis and I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t that. Thankfully it wasn’t. But since she was so dehydrated from the high fever, having difficulty keeping anything down, her blood cell count was up and her urine didn’t look that good (because of being dehydrated), we were admitted to stay over night. They ran some other tests but nothing came back positive –   Influenza A, mono and the rapid strep. I’m hoping the longer test for strep will come back positive today. She does have stinky breath and it would explain the the high temps. She’s been hovering at 104 but the meds are bringing it down. She was still at 104 once the meds wore off this morning which doesn’t make me happy. I was really hoping things would break overnight and she’d start feeling better.

Oh, and when they did the cat scan to check her appendix, something came back as showing abnormally. The pediatrician wasn’t worried about it since there were two spots and she was fairly certain it was just Lily’s ovaries. But since it was commented on, they have to check it out so we will be waiting to do an ultrasound this morning. And I’m hoping for some good news when they pull her CBC (complete blood count) too. Lily will not be happy about that blood draw. Poor girl. She is so done with needles. When we were at immediate care, they drew blood to run tests and the first stick didn’t take and the lady dug a little bit to try and grab the vein. Lily was so not happy. I was grateful the second stick worked. But ugh, by time we were at the hospital, she was not happy about the thought of getting the IV. Thankfully they were good and quick but yeah, I’m sure it hurt especially on her poor dehydrated self. At least the fluid brought some life back into her. Lily is so ready to have that thing out of her.

She was listless most of the day and perfectly happy to lay around like a sloth. But once the ibuprophen kicked in last night, she was quite perky for awhile. She even managed to walk around a little bit and the nurse showed her the play room. It wasn’t much to speak of but I think the little time helped Lily’s mood. We came back and Cars was playing on the Peds channel so I let her watch that in the chair until they came to check vitals at 11. Then we laid down and I let her watch until she passed out.

Sleep has been off and on for me. It’s not like there is a five star bed and Lily has been snoring like a mack truck since she’s on her back with a stuffy nose. It’s currently 5 AM. We had just finished getting Lily to take her Motrin for the fever. I’ve opted to just stay awake now since she said they’ll be in around 6 to take the blood draw. I’ve spent half the night balancing on about 3 inches of Lily’s hospital bed to sleep next her (per her request). Honestly, it was much warmer than the couch in the room and I’ve been shivery. And with the IV fluids, she’s had to get up at least 3 times to pee. Let me tell you, trying to get your 4 year old out of a hospital bed with an IV when you are half asleep is quite a task.

Here’s hoping for some good news this morning. And here’s hoping we are all sleeping in our own beds at home tonight.

Poor Lily (and you too, it’s HARD being a parent when your kidlet is poorly in hospital). FIngers crossed that you get good results from the blood draw and u/s and Lily can go home later. Sending love and positive thoughts. xx

I hope she is feeling better soon, and you can both go home and get some rest! Xo
