You sneeze in a very romantic way
I wonder if I shouldn’t start keeping track of the odd compliments I get in my life.
That one is from my Master’s director.
Had a pretty good day today. After a rather hectic couple of weeks, it’s been nice have a week where I don’t have to be at the lab every day at 7 am, the craziness will start up again next week, but a break helps.
Spent the morning tweaking my power point slides for tomorrow’s retreat and trying to make sure I had the data from this week’s experiment as we had a meeting with the director this afternoon to review the cell culture results. I’ve been running into some trouble with my results, so I fully expected that we would be scrapping the whole thing and re-starting with new experiments and a new batch of insulin (Which is exactly what ended up happening, at least I’ve gotten a handle on the actual experiment, so by the time everything gets sorted out, I should be an old hand at this.
So the afternoon was mostly the meeting but also finishing up the experiment I started yesterday.
Tonight was troupe practice. We’re working on a routine for the Skye and Naomie workshop in March. It’s a concept based off of dance battles (Lunou’s been watching way too much America’s Best Dance Crew). I’m on the all-girl’s team with Genevieve and Jessika, and eventually Claudy when she’s able to return. The beginning part is easy enough, and ours is pretty short, so I managed to get a handle on that fairly easily despite missing last week’s practice (due to Huda’s last minute wine and cheese). The battle part is a bit tougher though.
Now we were supposed to come up with our own choreography, but we’re basically the three least experienced girls there, so we weren’t exactly brimming with ideas. In the end Lunou, one of the coaches, came over to give us a hand. I haven’t decided how I feel about our routine yet… it’s interesting, but it’s not very me. There’s a lot of sexy moves and we end it by shaking our booty at the boys… (which I’m finding a little difficult to do without having all of me shake along…sigh). It’s especially difficult to do on this particular music, as it runs at about 240 bpm. But in the end, we managed to get most of it, there’s one move which is still giving us trouble but the rest worked out ok, in fact we were told that our group had the sharpest moves (in the sense that we were really together), although it may be unfair as our moves are simpler than some of the other groups. Hey, let’s hear it for simplicity.
We finished off the night grabbing a beer (or cider in my case) as McKibbins. It was Dapha, Tanya, Ge, Philippe, Mireille, Tavish and myself. We chatted and ate two bowls of fries. There was no deep conversations, but it was a nice time. Had to spank Daphna’s hand for bringing up Spencer though… lol!
Finally I dropped off Tavish and Mireille on my way home, ended up having a really interesting conversation with Mireille about sexual preferences and personalities. Which despite sounded horribly graphic and depraved was actually quite philosophical. She’s a really interesting girl, I may have to try to get to know her better. These troupe people are turning into a really fun bunch… gotta love swing dancers 🙂
ok, add this one to the list: nice sweater puppies
