What To Do. …

Just sitting her wondering what to do with myself. I can retire now if I wanted to but I have my sights set on June 2014. I’m fortunate in that I can start drawing my city pension and a supplementary firelighters pension that I paid into for the past 32 years until my social security kicks in. I have to keep reminding myself that I will take a cut in bring home pay until I can draw my social security in 6 years or so.I have always kept a budget, well, since 1978 anyway. I know at least 3 months in advance what bills are due and which check I am going to pay them out of. Still… the thought of taking a cut in income leaves me a little nervous. Yes… I know I waste more money now every month than my cut in income will be but…. …

I guess if push came to shove I could sell my part of the family farm huh? NOT!!!!!  We do derive a little income from some stock holdings my brothers and I have every year so…

…………………

There is lots of sunshine today. If it holds up until the weekend I have a two day motorcycle ride planned. Nowhere special just around in a big circle and back home for work Monday. I am so looking forward to the day I can wake up one morning and jump on my bike and ride off into the sunset and NOT have to worry about getting back home and going to work.

Having said all this I must remind myself of a fellow firefighter. He was ready to retire about 18 months ago. Six months or so before his retirement he discovered he had cancer. It was a rough 18 months. His funeral was last month.

‘…. therefore ask not for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee…’
