By the fire

Last night I sat outside by a pile of limbs and old logs that I was burning.

I watched the flames flicker, the smoke swirl and listened to the crackling.

I wished you were with me in person, you’re always on my mind and in my heart.

I remembered the first time we met, the swing we sat on, the coffee we shared.

I thought about our first meal together, your advice about the straw.

I closed my eyes, imagined  your smile,  your voice and laughter.

While my eyes were closed I saw you across the table from me,
as I struggled to keep eye contact and not look at your cleaveage. I remembered what I said,
‘I’m sorry, but they are there and I have to look occasionally."  I had decided that I should
just say what was on my mind, sink or swim. I don’t remember  you exact words but you laughed
and said something like if you were worried about being looked at you would cover up more.

I remembered we sat there for what seemed like forever after we finished eating.
Laughing like we were old friends that had been apart for a very long time.

I loved it when the question about a second date was brought up…
and the third
forth,
fifth,
sixth,

and how now,
all we count is the hours until we’re together again.
