Thanksgiving at the (almost) in-laws

This was my second thanksgiving away from home. Last year I was in France, but somehow that didn’t count because I was in a foreign country and no one was with their families. This year was different, different meaning it was a new experience and filled with strange things. First of all, they got a boneless-precooked turkey. That’s blasphemy to my family. I’ve noticed one thing about Matt’s family – everything is about making it simple and easy. The turkey is only the beginning. My family makes everything from scratch – Matt’s family used canned gravy and boxed stuffing and frozen potatoes. It just doesn’t taste the same at all… I think the only thing that was the same was the cranberry – I think most people in the world eat that out of the can, too. So… it was just different. Plus, we had two aunts, two uncles, two cousins, and two “family-friends” over for lunch on Thanksgiving and dinner the next day. I’m not used to big crowds like that – its not customary at Matt’s either, but for a first-time experience, it was just different. Plus, at my house its tradition to go around the table and say what you are thankful for. There was nothing remotely close to that here.

So, it has been different… but its been enjoyable all the same. I’ve had a lot of fun with Matt over the past few days, just relaxing and enjoying myself. I’ve been sleeping like I want to and I feel very good… It’s just awful that I have to go back to school tomorrow. I am so ready for my classes to be over for this semester… I am tired of them and tired of my hardcore schedule… Of course, next semester may be worse with two jobs… but at least my first class is only at 2pm two days a week and I will have a 3-day weekend!!! hooray!
