to dance among dreams.

The yellow-green oak leaves fluttered energetically as if playing with the rush of air that tickled their undersides. They would almost fly away were it not for the strong oaks, who held them fast to their boughs. Strong oaks which were strongly rooted in the courtyard below, and which in unison formed a canopy that shaded the courtyard from the harsh rays of the midday sun.

The yard was painted in vibrant pinks and peaches by the tall tulips which swayed, gently, as the soft breeze passed through their rows. Its supple touch made them move, slowly and gracefully, as if they danced to a sweet melodic tune.

Taking part in this joyful choreography were the two princesses of the court. They too, danced sweetly and gracefully, stopping here and there to sample a fragrance or to befriend an insect. Their step was light as to leave not a trace and they spoke not a single intelligible word. Their language was that of laughter and awe. They wore dresses which were light and colourful, but never cumbersome. Some might have said that their attire was not befitting of princesses, but they paid no heed. A princess, or any young girl, to them should be most happy to be clad with the beauty of the world surrounding them.

Once they did rest, at the base of one great oak. They soaked in the subtle sounds of  nature surround, as they decorated each other’s locks with warm-coloured flowers. Their heads now ornate, they looked through their innocent eyes and wondered at this great masterpiece that had been painted by divine hand, and was now being given for them to experience. Each wished to herself that this courtyard would never cease to be, for to them it had become a playground of dreams. </DIV

If I’m not mistaken I wrote this for high school writer’s craft. Not sure why it’s showing up in April 2004.

“Check out my vocabulary, guys.”
