On Fire

Besides the obvious out here in California, I like to think that I, too, am on fire. Not literally, of course. But I seem to be doing well with work. My butt is kicked everyday, but I’m getting it done. I’m constantly exhausted, but we have activities and we’re starting to have a yearbook and all these things are magically happening that I worried would never happen and was so scared of not accomplishing, so there you have it.

The boys play our biggest show to date on Saturday night. They’re playing the Viper Room – yes, formerly connected with Johnny Depp (somehow..I think he had ownership in it or something at one point) and River Phoenix’s death (happened right outside the door, if I recall). They’re supposed to be opening for another guy, but we have first billing on ticket sales – “Heroes for Hire with Joe Firstman.” The closer we get, the more I’m thinking that the touring company has actually given us equal billing on this show. I remember my John Mayer tickets saying, “John Mayer with Ben Folds and [some other band that I can’t remember the name of but are managed by Keifer Sutherland’s label], so it’s been sort of surreal seeing our name first on all advertisements and whatnot.

A year ago, almost to the month, I’d say, I explained to Matt how big a Viper Room gig would be and how it would be our first long-term goal, hoping to be there in two to three years. Turns out a year is all it took. Rumored attendees also include a guy from the A & R Department from Capitol Records AND (and this one cracks me up every time I think about it) Don Johnson! I swear – Miami Vice Don Johnson! One of the guys teaches his daughter at a private school here in the city and Don said he’s interested in the band and wants a couple tickets, so Dan’s going to give him some and we’ll hope they show up!

I’m going to wear a dress, I think. I don’t really have anything that looks stylish and completely casual. I look like a country bumpkin in most of my clothes – or a high school student. And for this, I want to look professional, so I think I’ll wear my white/black polka dotted Lucy dress with the pink sash. At least I’ll look somewhat professional/cute/retro/adorable.

Bell just rang for third block – hence, I must say goodbye!

Then his little ass figured out that the thing got worse and worse and then dialed down when he stoped for a time so hed bark real bad til he couldnt take it then wait for it to dail all the way back to the first setting and start back up again. he is the devil dog
