Because I Don’t Know What Else to Do
You know, you don’t realize how much you take someone for granted until you don’t have them there anymore. That sounds so high-schoolingly depressing when you consider why and for how long I’m without my someone.
Matt flew to Oklahoma yesterday morning to be with his family this weekend. I’ll pick him up from the airport (more on that later!) on Sunday night, around 10:00 p.m. He flew home because his grandmother passed away on Tuesday morning. I know I sound incredibly selfish and princessy with my whining about how I take him for granted and realize how much I like having him around when he’s gone. Which, I like having him around anyway – that’s not just something that occurs to me when I don’t have him around anymore. We rarely get on each other’s nerves and I’m telling you, you guys, we’re together all the time. Even when we’re not together, we’re together.
We leave the apartment building at the same time (not necessarily together) for work – if I’m lucky, he’ll drive past me on my walk to the parking garage and give me a ride – that’s only in the hands of perfect timing, though. During the commute to work, we might text each other about something funny on the Adam Corolla show…that guy and his crew? Frecking hilarious. Anyway, probably within an hour of getting to our respective offices, one of us will email/IM the other. It’s from that point that we talk off and on for the rest of the day. We pretty much break it up on the way home – unless traffic is horrid, then one or both of us will text with something like this: "Traffic sucks today." "The way the 10 [freeway] looks, I’ll be home tomorrow sometime." etc.
Once home, we’ll text each other to say "I’m home." I’m usually home first, so I go ahead and start cooking supper so he doesn’t have to wait too long when he gets home. Then we watch the latest DVD sent to us from Blockbuster (Current options at all times: LOST, The Extended Experience, Season 2 – I’m trying to catch him up in time for the new season premiere – we’re cutting it pretty close) or read or talk or whatever. My point is, we’re together until bedtime when one of us retreats to his/her apartment for sleeping.
So, I know I sound all prissy when I’m complaining about him being gone for just four days, but still. You really don’t realize how much someone is a part of your life until they’re not really there – even for a day.
Time to discuss something less depressing (depending on your view of it): LAX Airport!
Most people hate airports anyway, but with the recent crap that’s gone on, you’re pretty much guaranteed to get frustrated at your local flying depot. However, LAX makes life easier for the people who are picking you up/dropping you off at the airport! Seriously. I’ve been to and around several airports in my day and LAX is the most organized layout for an airport that I’ve ever seen. Getting TO the terminals and baggage claim is as easy as getting AROUND them. The parking structures are dead center of the airport and clearly labeled with which airlines are most easily accessible from each of them (i.e. P4-for terminal 4, Southwest, American, United, etc.) This is my excitement about it. For such a large city and a large airport, you expect it to be organized, but it’s SO organized that it’s easier to navigate than airports I’ve been to that had 2 terminals with baggage claim adjoining.
Airports have always fascinated me anyway, but LAX is probably my favorite airport, as far as navigation of the outside goes. I’ll update you after Christmas, when I have to navigate the inside of the airport, but for now, when it counts – when I have to greet others at the aiport – I love going. I hate that you can’t go back past ticketing anymore. Sometimes airports have the best shopping! And let’s face it, they’re some of the best places to people-watch.
Okay. Enough rambling. Back to the most boring day ever. It’s only 3:15 p.m. and I already want to kill myself. Or someone else. Or maybe I need to do a B & E. (If you know what that’s from, you rock!)
I’m sorry to hear about Matt’s loss…I hope he is back soon so your world will start spinning correctly again. As for LAX…um…I hate to tell you that it’s my least favorite airport ever. I guess it’s not too shabby from the picking up and dropping off standpoint, but traveling through there I LOATHE.

I liked LAX, but I have to tell you- Orlando? When you have a 5 hour layover? Is the airport of the gods.
