RYN: Thanks for sharing that link. It seems that I’m coming across story after story and commentary after commentary in which Dawkins, Harris, and other atheists and their alleged attitudes are being made the issue when the real issues are the absurdity of theism/religion and the utter lack of evidence for theism/religious beliefs. There’s much more I could say about the particular essay you gave the link to but it turns out that About.com’s Austin Cline has already done an excellent job summarizing my point of view – http://atheism.about.com/b/a/258626.htm

RYN: I haven’t read Collins’s book but I’ve read a lot about it and I’ve heard him trying to explain his main points. I’ve been less than impressed. If you’re interested, you can learn more in an entry I posted last Aug 30: http://www.opendiary.com/entryview.asp?authorcode=C101953&entry=21064&mode=

Biologist/blogger PZ Myers seems to share many of my opinions about Collins. You can learn more here: http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2007/04/reasons_to_believe_according_t.php Do you think your teacher agrees with Collins or do you think he’s just trying to get his students to recognize BS when they see it?
