Work stuff, cats
Look, an entry! I’ve been writing mostly private ones lately whenever I do feel like writing, which isn’t that often.
I did end up quitting the Co-op. I feel like it’s a good thing, and I’m happy because it gives me more of an opportunity to find a better job that’s more of a resume builder. I’ve been looking at the AmeriCorps stuff, but am also submitting resumes to cool places around here in case something doesn’t work out with AmeriCorps. Oh, I also found some grad school program in Arizona that sounds really interesting– a Masters in Social Justice and Human Rights. I’ll be looking more into that soon. For some reason applying for grad schools seems really intimidating… I mean, every step feels like it has to be in concrete or something. Even the decision to take the GRE seems like a big commitment. Ugh.
Work at the Parks is going well, and I spend around half of my days there at the gate house as long as it’s not rainy outside or something. The turtles are basically doing well, though Sally has been pretty cranky. I think she needs to see a vet. Matt (who I worked with there) ended up quitting so he could go to school out in California for a semester as part of some exchange program, but already came back after about two weeks. He said he wouldn’t be able to take the classes he wanted to out there, and it just wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. I guess he also spend all of his money just getting out there (and stopping at places along the way), and once he got there it was hard to find a job. So… back to Indiana! I don’t think he’s going to come back to work at the Parks again, which is understandable. He’d been working there for several years (like, 7 or 8 years off and on) and wants to try something new.
I hung out with Thea (my college roommate) the other day. It was really, really awesome to see her again. It’d been about 2 years, but while hanging out and talking it felt like no time had passed at all. We met up at her sister’s high school graduation party which was… interesting. They were pretty loud and there was lots of drinking and little kids running around unsupervised. There was loud country music blaring from speakers, and a bounce house filled with lots of screaming sugar coated kids. We tried to stay away from all of that though. Thea’s girlfriend Melissa was also there. They’ve been together for a few years and live near Chicago together and I like her a lot. That was a fun day, and I ended up coming back with some leftover food–10 cupcakes and a dozen coney dogs. They’ll be back around in about 2 weeks and it’ll be cool to hang out with them again.
What else… oh, Tom adopted two cats from the shelter. One is a four year old named Jan, a little chick with gray and brown fur and a weird attitude. She looks and acts a lot like a cat I used to have named Chewwie so I’m quite partial to her. The other cat is a 1.5 year old male named Nathan, who’s a long haired black tabby. He has a lot of energy and acts a lot like a dog, likes to fetch and likes belly rubs. I wrote a theme song for Nathan:
Here comes Nathan, he’s a cat
He’s just fluffy, he’s not fat
His feet are big and is head is small
Nathan is the best of all!
Yeah, it’s a little cheesy but… it captures his energy I guess? The songs I usually "write" end up being that way.
I don’t have to work today so I think I’ll head off to Auburn and hang out with Mom if she doesn’t have a lot to do. I might also get an oil change. Exciting things are in store!
Auburn is well Auburn… and the crowd cheers. It seems like life is taking interesting turns.

I don’t feel it is strange, it is more natural.

Ah, hopefully you won’t have to work as much now that the Co-op is gone! Kitties, hurray! I hope things are going well. I haven’t heard from you for weeks. You can stop by the apartment whenever you want considering you still live here! Or if you want to hang, just give me a call. Stop being a stranger!

That Masters program sounds awesome! Good luck with the job search, it does sound like things at the co-op were too dramatic and complicated. Don’t you love the kind of friend you can go a long time without seeing them, and when you do it’s like you hung out just two days ago? And I love your song for Nathan. Do we get to see pictures of the cats?

ryn: I would love to hang out! Currently I work Wednesday (hopefully a few hours) Thursday I just have an AmeriCorps meeting, Friday I have to sit at a booth in Walmart.. (Please kill me) for 4 hours, than Saturday I co-teach for Family Caregiving for a few hours in Angola…if anybody shows up! So, Thursday evening or Saturday evening will be best for me. You should introduce your kitties

ryn: Oh no, poor kittie! I hope she’ll be allright! If you need anything let me know. I have a humidifier, Vicks steamer and a heating pad if she needs it for comfort.
