YEAH WHATEVA

Hey doodz. I am kindof in weird mood, so bear with me.

Today I was a little bored and cranky so I decided to go on a hike… by myself! See, I have this fear that if I go hiking by myself a rabid (?!) mountain lion will immediately pounce on my and eat my face off. ::sigh:: So I went, and I’m happy to report that I’m still alive. I only hiked about 2 1/2 miles though, and the best thing I saw were some fairly tame deer. They were just chilling, and one or two passed about 5 or 6 feet in front of me. I looked at them and they were just like, yeah, whateva (–> YOU MUST WATCH THIS SIFL & OLLY LINK TO UNDERSTAND THE ATTITUDE OF THE DEER). Here is a pic of them:

So I realize you can’t see the 5 or 6 of them very well. Oh well! Just imagine that you can. This is the best that the camera on my phone could provide.

The past few days I have been experiencing varying levels of crankiness. Don’t you hate that? Inexplicable crankiness, I mean? It’s almost more annoying when I don’t have some concrete reason to be cranky. I guess that’s the plight of any ovary owner. ::sigh::

I decided today, somewhat on a whim, that I’m going to apply for the PeaceCorps. Yeah, yeah, I’ve heard somewhat negative things about it from a few people, questioning the efficacy and true motives of the program, but whatever. I think it would provide some new life and work experience, as well as an opportunity to really travel. After all, I’ve only been out of the country once… and that was to Tijuana which doesn’t really count (and we were only there for about 15 hours). There might even be an opporunity to plant trees in other countries. HEY I KNOW HOW TO PLANT TREES.

I’m pretty much forced to follow through with this because I already have my references in order: Paul (providing a personal reference); Bo, my supervisor from Our City Forest (providing a professional reference); and Tim, one of my academic advisors from MC and the director of the Peace Studies Institute there (providing an academic reference). The only thing I really have to do now is include specific information about my financial obligations and write 2 essays. One of the essays is about why I want to work for the P.C. and how it fits in with my life experiences and future goals; the second is explaining a situation in which I had to adapt, and yadda yadda yadda. I’m kindof worried about the second one because I don’t feel like I’ve really done anything that significant and amazing, you know?

I’m glad I got my references in order first, because otherwise I’d chicken out.

You know what I’m still not used to? Driving downtown. SJ is the 10th largest city in the US, and I can safely say there is a healthy ratio of douchebag drivers to regular drivers (9:10?). I almost got hit today, but I guess that’s a pretty regular occurence.

I head back to work tomorrow, and I can pretty much say I’m happy about that. Not working is boring. We do have another tree delivery though, which means more tree scootin’ and prunin’ in the rain. I wonder why I’m not getting more buff? Oh well. Almost 12 days until I go home. I need to get really buff before then so I can scare mom’s dogs with my manliness.

Time for bed! Let’s hope I don’t wake up a few times tonight.

lol at your mom’s note! Awesome, congrats on the decision to apply for PeaceCorps! Throughout high school I really wanted to do PeaceCorps after I graduated (my friends thought I was a hippy). I’m just chickenshit though and couldn’t leave my parents; who knew that just a few years later I would leave dad to move to Ga, anyway?

Oh deer! *slaps self* In all seriousness I’m glad you had such an awesome hike! Wow, I’m impressed with you, hon. I’ve heard conflicting stuff about PeaceCorps but mostly good stuff. All possible appendages will be crossed for you, hon. *hugs*
