Gettin’ Freight Smacked Again!

Well, we had an ok night, despite the best efforts of the idiot Senior Manager to bring it down to a crappy night. We would have had an excellent night, but we had a call-in in a critical area, so again I had to shift some people around to areas they might not be as good in to cover it, but he went on a tear pulling extra crap out and changing endcaps and for the love of all that is good right and holy can we just TURN THE FRAKING TRUCK!?!?!?!?!

He was ragging on two aisles all night long, not because they weren’t going to get done, but because they weren’t stocking the aisles in the order he wanted them stocked. Leave my people alone and let them do their jobs. Please. They are not idiots (occasionally stoned, but not idiots) and know the expectation. If you try to micromanage them all you will accomplish is that 1) they lose respect for you 2) they start slowing down on you. There are a few goobs who will take advantage if you aren’t careful, but for the most part we have a pretty good crew. Even the goobs work if you make sure they know you are watching them. For example, I had a talk with three people about their lunches being too long two days ago. I had a talk with two more people tonight, and wrote up a repeat offender, all before the first break. Every single one of them took a fifty-nine minute lunch as opposed to their normal hour and fifteen. It’s all about the perception of control. I have no idea how long anyone else took, but I’ll be keeping track of that bunch for a week or so and randomly spot checking two or three people a day until everyone is behaving again.

So anyway, on to the title: we’re getting another seven thousand pieces in tonight. We’re supposed to be past peak freight for the season already. Right now we’re just supposed to be replacing what we sell, and we have a lot of stuff in external storage that hasn’t hit the sales floor yet so I know we haven’t sold enough to have two 7000 case nights.

I’m pretty sure the warehouse is trying to get me fired. No, not really, but thinking that makes me feel better somehow.

Wow. Lots of the retail jobs I’ve had only gave us a half hour lunch, which is stupid because sometimes it takes that long just to get your food if you did not bring it from home. An hour is a privilige!
