So again, why did we bother?

Yeah, not only did StrangeBoy snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, he ripped victory’s arm off and beat it about the head and neck until it ran away forever.

I swear, we handed them the store on a silver platter and it still didn’t get done. There was freight sitting in the back marked "untouched" that *we* worked, so I have no idea what the overnighters did.

I spent a lot of quality time up in my areas today. I’m fairly certain they hate me now, lol. It’s not like I care, it’s just I hadn’t noticed how really bad at their jobs some of them are and now I know. And I’ll be addressing it.

So my areas should be standing tall tomorrow, they know the expectation, they know it can be done. The rest of my side of the store (which is primarily my partner’s responsibility) will look as good as StrangeBoy gets it, which sucks for them, and I feel badly for them but the only thing we can do to fix it is throw labor at it and corporate keeps cutting our hours back. My store is pretty much a profit machine, and for some reason the bean counters think we could make even more money if we cut labor costs. Nope, sorry, it doesn’t work that way past a certain point, which we hit at least two months ago. Seriously, we’re a little behind our goal for the year (to the tune of less than 1% off the mark) for profit but that’s only because they gave us a ridiculous goal. And we are still that close. We made so much profit last year we could have bought another forklift and paid for it outright instead of amortizing like a normal capital expense and still made our bonus. And we probably should have, it would have lowered this years goal to something reasonable.

Here’s an example of the strangeness of corporate accounting at my company: we’ve got rough draft numbers for next year’s goals, just an overall sense, not even broken down by quarter, and they are increasing the sales goal by six million but leaving the profit goal the same. Go figure. If we hit the extra six million (and baring a drastic hit to the local economy we probably will) then we will blow away the profit goal if they leave it the same. Whatever. All I know is I’ve been getting pretty good bonuses ever since I came to this store and I want to keep it that way.

Off the next two days, work an extra day on Wednesday, 1/3 of a shift on Thursday, then back on my regular rotation. I get to sleep in and miss the hurly-burly on Friday morning for the second year in a row. I don’t mind a bit.
