AWA 2010 [EDIT] Links added

I enjoyed it!

I went down this morning, just for the day. It wasn’t as much fun as it would have been if I’d had friends with me, so I’m planning on taking Critter, Ember, and Mana next year. I just have to let them know….

Definitely getting a room next year and doing all three (well, four and a half) days. Pretty sure I’m gonna cosplay as Inuyasha, I’m thinking the ladies could be Kagome, Sango, and Kikyo, but it’s totally up to them.

Saw the normal assortment of folks who weren’t exactly on theme with their costumes. I saw two Ghostbusters, a few scattered SGC team members, several Johnny Depp style Mad Hatters, one Hostess Twinkie, one Aladdin, and one Buzz Lightyear. There was the fourth incarnation of the Doctor, and a guy wearing a t-shirt and jeans with a Gryffindor scarf around his neck. I also saw several costumes that almost weren’t, meaning there was a lot more skin showing than actual costume, but they pulled it off well. There were also the random half-way cosplayers that made me think, "what the crap?" There was one guy wearing a generic cape with street clothes and another guy wearing long sweats and carrying a Keyblade. I really don’t think that counts as cosplay, but I might be wrong.

I swear if I ever hear someone yell, "what time is it?!?" in a crowd again I’m gonna slap them. That question in a room full of Cartoon Network (the primary source of non-mainstream televised anime for a large portion of Americans) fans elicits the response (at the top of their lungs) "it’s Adventure Time!" That wouldn’t have been so bad except the first time they did it some goober yelled in my ear and it hurt a little.

I could have spent three or four hundred dollars on t-shirts alone, OMG. I limited myself to two, one for me and one I just had to get for Critter. Mine says, "Some people say I have ADD. That’s really not… Oooooo! Shiny!" which just cracks me up because it’s so true. The one I got for Critter (and I wasn’t actually looking, but this one just screamed "buy me for Critter!") says, "…and then Buffy staked Edward. The End." She loves it.

There were two referencing Dune about caffeine. One referenced the Mentat mantra and the other one referenced the Litany Against Fear, they were both hilarious. There was one with a picture of the Death Star and a Stormtrooper that said, "I had a friend on that Death Star" and another kind of out of place one that I thought was funny: I am an explosives expert, if you see me running try to keep up!

I’m pretty sure the slip with the t-shirt vendor’s web address on it is in the bag with Critter’s shirt so when she gets off work I’ll find out what it is and link it in here. [EDIT] – I’m not sure if the new links are to the vendor I purchased mine from, but they are the same shirts.

Bought two hentai (NSFW image in linked page) titles and was looking for some of the later Inuyasha mangas but no one had anything past what I’ve already seen in anime form. The anime stopped before the end of the manga because they had caught up to the manga and had no more source material. The manga has since been published to conclusion, but even though it has been several years no one had the later volumes. Bummer.
