Day Off

In case this entry looks weird, there’s a whole lot of weird HTML that just keeps appearing when I copy from Word to paste here. It’s never done that before and I’ll try to fix it for next time.

For some reason I thought I had already mentioned it here but I got my truck back first thing Monday morning. The Ford place went ahead and changed out the water pump (even though that wasn’t the problem) since they had the thing apart anyway. They got that little tube replaced, so now everything is running smoothly.

I got nailed doing seventy-five in a fifty-five on the way in to work after I picked up the truck, but I was pulled over, windows down and flashers on, before the cop ever came over the hill, and by the time he got to my window I had my license, registration, and insurance out for him. Just being curteous, you know, it’s not like I didn’t know what I had done. And I got off with a warning, no ticket. Yay! Of course he’s going to be camped out there for the next week probably, so I have to behave.

Ember got dumped by TacoBoy last night. I think it sucks. I don’t know what she’s going to do now, but I’m betting she’s going to stay where she is (not necessarily the same apartment, but same area) since she’s got a really good job and is looking to buy a house. Besides, the job she has there is better than any job she could currently get up here. Maybe if she “levels up” so to speak to LPN or RN like she was thinking about she could get a good job up here, but the medical professionals up here don’t seem to need medical assistants. Or maybe they just don’t want to carry the overhead and split up the MA jobs amongst the rest of the staff. Last we talked about it she was scouting for a place with an accredited CNA curriculum, but that was when she first got down there and didn’t have a job yet. She seems very happy where she is now, so who knows?

I’m pretty well stuck on the sidelines of life right now. The situation with the truck pretty well wiped out my bank account, so no extra stuff for ToyMan until the next payday, which is nine days away. Yay me.

I’ve done something I should have done a long time ago and set up a separate e-mail account to use as the contact point on social networking and blog sites. This will keep my family from hunting me down all over the place and put all my e-mails about those accounts in one place. I was talking about that with Critter yesterday or the day before, I’m not sure which.

B sent me some texts yesterday when they got home from school. She wanted to know if Critter was with me, and told me D was being mean to her. I told her to tell D to stop and that Critter was at work, but she’d be home soon.

The weather was really nice today: clear and windy but not too warm. I had most of the doors open to let the wind blow through. I think it got up to eighty-five, but with the constant air movement through the house it was never uncomfortable. Of course if I was the one paying the utility bill it’d be sweet, as it is I’m just saving my landlord money.

I’ve got a new neighbor downstairs and to the right as you face out my living room windows. They must be afraid of the dark or something because they leave the light by their door on all the time. They’ve even put in a super-bright ultra-white CFL as opposed to a normal one. All they’re really doing is annoying me with it. It doesn’t keep me up but it makes it near on impossible to walk down the hill without a flashlight now. Yes, that’s right, their light being on makes it harder to see. I know, you’re thinking that doesn’t make sense but it really does if you think about it. That light being on (as opposed to the normal starlight/moonlight only situation) makes your pupils contract, which makes it harder to see the things that are not directly lit but not in shadow, and damn near impossible to see anything that’s actually in a shadow. Why in the world would you move up to a place like this if you had to have that much light to feel safe? Nimrods.

Critter had to work today, which I suppose is good since I wasted most of the prime hang-out time of the day reading. She and OtherGuy are both off Thursday but they are just going to hang around the house and relax.

I’ve been feeling a little bummed out for the past few days. It may just be the money situation, but I don’t know. I’ll try to keep tabs on it and let y’all know if it’s something more serious than that.

Had one of the employees at my store say something strange to me last night. She said that she had wanted to say something to me, but thought better of it since I was “a boss” as she put it. I told her that it was fine, she could go ahead and tell me, even if she called me a rude name this one was free. She then told me that a while back, I’m not sure how far, that she and her husband were having a bit of a rough patch, and she kept wanting to ask me to hang out with her, but she was afraid she’d get fired. I’m not sure where she envisioned things going from the “hanging out” stage, but I’ve got a pretty good idea, based on some things she’s said to me in the past about my lack of a girlfriend. I told her that I would have been OK with her asking, that even if I’d wanted to I couldn’t fire her for that, but that we could both have been fired if I’d said, “Sure, let’s go!” I was actually flattered.

Carla brought me home Sunday night. TreeSap was supposed to but it seems everyone else in her household ran off that afternoon and there were no adults to supervise the three “little monkeys” (as she called them) while she slept, so she had to stay up much longer than she should have and needed the extra sleep. I guess she had both of her kids this weekend, but I’m not sure who the other one was. Carla was cool with it though. When we got here I showed her around, and she liked the apartment. She said it was way too “woodsy” for her. She likes private, but not isolated. I also told her she’s free to visit any time, but to call ahead unless she wanted an eyeful of ToyMan (she already knew about my nudism from another conversation) and she just laughed. She didn’t stay long, her son was at home with her mom and she needed to make sure he was getting to bed since he had school (K-5) in the morning.
