The animals came in by twosies twosies

Good grief at the rain. It’s stopped now, thank goodness.

I forgot to mention that there are two large streams I cross (they really aren’t normally big enough for me to think of them as rivers) on my way to and from work every day. As I drove home yesterday they were both out of their banks, but you could still tell where the banks were. Last night as I drove in and this morning as I drove home they are so far out of their banks and moving so fast I half expected a paddle wheeler or maybe even Huck & Jim on their raft to float by. I saw at least one, maybe two houses where the water was above the level of their thresholds so they’re probably flooded. That’s going to be unpleasant to deal with.

The country club I pass every day now has an island hole, much like the 17th at Sawgrass. There wasn’t a water hazard anywhere near it before. Most of the back nine are under what looks to be at least a foot of water. There are several farms I pass as well and they are also underwater now. I’ve never seen crops or livestock in those fields so maybe it’s just an inconvenience to them but still.

There was evidence that the highway I take down the mountain was underwater in at least three spots for at least a short time yesterday while I was at home. I’m kinda glad I’m on nights right now. Of course I’d have felt like a real dumbass if I’d driven into a flooded out section of road I couldn’t see…

Talked some with the senior manager in charge today. He’s recently gotten a second interview for a smallish low-volume store in our district where the facility manager just stepped down unexpectedly. The store has been doing well enough, my entire district is not as far up for the year as we had projected, but the area’s economy is based on either carpet mills or chicken plants, and with both of them doing massive layoffs our customers just don’t have the money to spend. I think he wants me to go with him as his Senior Manager. That’d be cool. I can’t remember how it came up but he told me that my job has never been in jepardy, and he doesn’t see a problem with me being a Senior Manager within the year.

Wow. That’s a shot in the arm after Queeg. Incidentally she saved my ass this morning. There was a glitch and this stupid productivity tool we have to use now (which greatly decreases our productivity, btw) and the data didn’t tier up to the district office. Well they came waltzing into the store today, wanted to talk to the senior manager in charge and the overnight manager for the night in question, me. They asked me why I didn’t use the tool. I told them I did, they said "no, you didn’t our report is blank." To which I replied by handing them copies (the originals were tucked away in the office, something Queeg made us do every morning because *she’s* even more paranoid than I am) of the local report and told them that there must be yet another programming error in the tool (this thing is crap) and here was the report it spit out at the end of the shift. They just stood there looking at me like I’d just dropped down from outer space. I turned to the senior manager and asked if I could go now since I’d been up for around forty hours and had only had three or so hours of sleep and he said yes. So I left.

Ah, the satisfaction of “here’s your crappy system for you.” 🙂 Gotta love when upper management has to eat their words. And they never say they’re sorry. That’s the part that gets me. Maybe that’s why I’ve never been asked to be a manager. I always apologize when I’ve screwed something up.

You know, I’ve heard you say before that you hate retail, but you seem to go the extra mile to do a good job, not just in this entry, but in most I’ve read. I think your company would be a bunch of dumbasses to not make you a Senior Manager if that’s what you want. However, I know that there is a chance that the indeed are dumasses…..but I’m hopeful for ya!
