Rough week ahead

It’s going to be a rough week at work. I’ve got three people out on vacation, which wouldn’t be a big deal if I hadn’t had three or four people quit since I approved the vacations. Add to that the back to school shopping frenzy that’s going on at all the major retailers and we’re pretty well screwed.

We’ve got a new manager starting this week. Well, he’s not new, he’s a transfer from another store, so he’ll just need to get familiarized with our store, but I’m wondering how long he’s gonna last working for Queeg.

I really hate my job. I’ve got to get myself situated financially so I can move on and not have to worry about Queeg’s mood swings. I’d kind of like to find something in town but I don’t know that there’s anything that pays as much as I’m making now that I’m qualified for. The only stuff I seem qualified to do requires working nights, weekends, and holidays, and since I’ve been working for almost twenty years now I’d kind of like to get one of those off occasionally. Taking a pay cut to get them wouldn’t seem that bad except I’m only just now making what I need to make to support the family I want, and even then whoever I marry is going to have to work at least part-time to help out until I get promoted again.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, none of the overnight managers at my store has been getting their comp days for holidays. It’s customary at my company (and many others) for the salaried managers to get an extra day off after a holiday since we don’t get any extra pay for it. Since I’ve been on over nights we’ve had three holidays (President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day) that we should have gotten comp days for but we haven’t. Every single one of the day shift managers has gotten their comp days including the three senior managers. The manager that just left asked about that and was told that we’ll get them next year, which doesn’t do him a whole lot of good since he doesn’t work at our store anymore. Never mind that the managers on overnights last year got their comp days within a month of the holiday.

I really hate my job.
