The economy has been officially stimulated

I went ahead and bough the PS/3 last night. I was balancing my checkbook right after I did the last entry and noticed that I got a stimulus payment. Cool.

Quick note to anyone who is thinking about buying a PS/3 – don’t expect to take it home and just plug it in and start playing games like you would with a PS/2, it’s got to set up its Interent connection (if you have one) and heaven forbid you should need a system software update since they take about two hours to download (and I’ve got a really good provider and a 100BaseT network in the house). The good news is that once the damned thing is downloaded it only takes about ten minutes to install and restore control of the console to you. Oh yeah, once you start an update, the console locks out the controls and the only way to stop it is to unplug it from the wall, but that could cause the system to not boot next time you restart it, sweet.

I also got the extra sensor bar for the Wii. The guy looked at me kind of funny when I asked if they had them since we’d just been talking about PS/3’s but I explained that I had a friend who might bring her Wii over occasionally and it would make her life easier if I had one. Of couse this one is wireless, but I can probably put rechargeable batteries in it.

Ember and her man were going to come over tonight after dinner and help me break in the PS/3 and Heavenly Sword but they fell asleep on the couch at her place after dinner and never made it. Maybe later. I think the next game I get is going to be Dark Kingdom. I’ve been told by a gamer that it plays very much like Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance / Dark Alliance II. I really wish Interplay had gone ahead with Dark Alliance III. Holy Crap! While looking it up to see what they had decided to focus on instead of Dark Alliance I found a link to this press release saying they’ve finally decided to go ahead with Dark Alliance III and several other projects they had previously shelved. Yipee! Even if it takes a few years it’ll be worth the wait for me. I’ll probably have to buy Ember a copy too because we’ll never be able to share, not at first, anyway.
